One of the questions in Section B of Paper 2 lets you write to inform. The information you provide should be clear, detailed, relevant and organised logically. You should include facts and opinions, and a personal response if possible.
TOP TIP: To achieve a high grade you need to show that you can write in depth about the subject given. Try to focus on the most significant points and include as much detail as possible.
As with other kinds of writing, you will have to think carefully about the purpose (what the writing is trying to do) and the audience (who it is aimed at) when writing to inform. Considering different purposes and audiences will involve thinking about the content, layout and language of your writing. For example:
Style and tone: Is the writing informal or formal? Does it use slang? Does it use specialist terms only a certain group of people might understand? Is it complex or easy to follow?
Content: What sorts of detail are included? How might these be of interest to a particular audience?
Layout: Does the layout make it easy to follow? Does it try to appeal to a particular type of reader and/or create a particular impression through use of colour, fonts and pictures?
