You will be studying this text for the GCSE English Literature examination. On Paper 2, Section A, you will be expected to answer one question from a choice of two on the play. Questions could be about: ideas, themes and issues; characterisation or settings.
It is important that you are able to analyse the play in detail and know it well enough to find quotations to support your idea quickly and efficiently. You must also understand the context of the play as this will help you with your analysis. This means that you must know about the period in history in which it is set (1912) and the period during which it was written and first performed (1945). It is important to understand what was happening in history at the time; the importance of social class and the political ideas associated with capitalism and socialism.
