Before you begin to design your puppets you will need to consider what would make a simple and effective design. To do this you are going to complete a short piece of research primary using the resources below.
Read through the resources in the 'Useful Resources' box.
Write down your top three choices of puppets you would like to make. Be ready to justify your choice.
Discuss with your team the top choices of puppets.
Make a decision on which type of puppet your team will make, along with a list of resources that you will need to source.
For this activity, you are going to be designing the puppets that you will make for your puppet show. You will need to consider the materials that you have access to, and the amount of time that you have available to realistically make the puppets. Collect a series of A4 sheets of paper with outlines of puppets on them and then design your puppets. Remember to fully label the key aspects of your puppets along with the materials that you will be making them out of. Once you have finished, share your design with your team for them to critique it and to suggests ways to improve it. Write the suggested improvements in a different coloured pen onto your design.

If you complete the design of your puppets you could further enhance your show by considering the type of backdrop or scenery you could use. Collect A4 plain paper and plan out your designs for the scenery. Remember to keep things simple! You will have access to card, colour pens and paint to do this.
You will have time within the collapsed week to make the puppets and the scenery. Below is a list of materials that you have available to you in school. You may wish to bring materials in from home, for example, something so sow with, old clothes that you can use the fabric from, etc.
