Notice from 18th April 2024:

weSTEM High School Conference - NYU Abu Dhabi - Saturday 27th April 2024. 


Female students from DAA are invited to attend the weSTEM High School Conference on Saturday 23rd April 2024 on the camps of NYU Abu Dhabi.

The conference will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m..

The conference will be focused on developing basic technical and interpersonal skill sets for girls who aspire to work in STEM and will consist of seminars focusing on career development within the STEM field. One of the highlights of the weSTEM High School Conference is the series of workshops designed to provide hands-on experience and skill development in various areas of STEM.

The deadline for Registration is on April 23rd.

UniHawk/Teen LaunchPad - Internship Fair - 27th April - 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 


UniHawk and Teen LaunchPad invite students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 to their second Internship Fair of the year.


The event will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday 27th April at GEMS Wellington Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis.


The Internship Fair provides a super opportunity for engagement and connection with universities, business owners and corporations.  Students can attend workshops and network to arrange paid or voluntary summer internships.

Notice from 20th March 2024:

UAE Philosophy Olympiad - Friday 23rd March


The organising team of the 2024 UAE Philosophy Olympiad are pleased to announce that the UAE Philosophy Olympiad will be held remotely on the 23rd of March from 8 AM to 12 PM. 


This is an event recommended for students from Grades 9 - 12.

The Olympiad will involve writing a philosophical essay, based on a set of prompts. This will be judged by experts affiliated with the likes of Oxford University and IIT-Bombay.

 

Two winners will be announced, and they will have the opportunity to represent the UAE at the International Philosophy Olympiad in Finland from 16th - 19th May.

Immerse Education - Visionary Minds Challenge - Essay competition


The Visionary Minds Challenge invites ambitious students aged 14-18 from High Schools around the globe to

engage with the most pressing issues of our time. 


This competition serves as a platform for students to voice their innovative ideas and propose actionable solutions to some of the most critical challenges of our time. It’s a chance for students to voice their solutions and ideas on a global platform and to be recognized for their intellectual contributions.  


Grand Prize: GB£3,000 (c. AED 14,000) towards university expenses, awarded to the guardian of the winning individual(s) and an Immerse Summer Programme - up to GB£6995 (c. AED 32,700) in value for each winning entrant.


Runner up: 50% scholarships for a summer program at a prestigious university location - Immerse Education current offers 7 locations globally.


Additional prizes: Partial scholarships, publication opportunities, and a 12-month premium membership to Immerse Education, launching in May 2024.


The competition is open exclusively to students enrolled at schools in the Immerse School Network - DAA is one such school! Participants must be aged 14-18. Entries can be submitted by individuals or groups of up to three students.

Notice from 1st February 2024:

Yale Foreign Policy Initiative - Essay competition.

GEMS DAA High School students are invited to participate in Yale University's Foreign Policy Initiative Essay Writing Competition


The Yale Foreign Policy Initiative is a student-run organization dedicated to expanding access to foreign policy opportunities through competitive research partnerships with experts from around the world.


The essay competition focussed on extending opportunities to DAA High School students who may have an interest in global political event, essay writing, or current affairs.


For the competition, students will choose a country, identify a global or domestic issue it faces, and propose a foreign policy approach to address the problem.


Essays will be reviewed by a number of undergraduate and graduate Yale professors, and the winning pieces will be showcased in Yale Foreign Policy Initiative-partnered publications. 


In addition, Yale Foreign Policy Initiative will award $300 to the essay which achieves first place.


Deadline for submission of essay for the 2024 competition is Sunday 14th April 2024.

Notice from 25th January 2024:

Second Edition - Zayed Award for Human Fraternity - Arts Project.

GEMS DAA High School students are invited to participate in this upcoming, prestigious, arts project.


The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an arts competition where participants are invited to "reflect on instances that inspire optimism, solidarity, fairness, and equality, and channel these sentiments into an expression of art." The award is designed to be "a celebration of unity and creativity for youth and by youth."


The work can take the form of a drawing, painting, or sketch and express YOUR imagination and unique vision of "Human Fraternity".


The 2023 event was a remarkable success, where diverse artworks adorned social media and were showcased at the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity ceremony and the Ramadan market at Global Village. 


In the 2024 competition a new submission portal has been introduced to streamline the process of submission and those wishing to participate can engage with the portal and submit their entry between Monday 15th January and Sunday 28th January.


Sign up at the portal is required with an e-mail address and password prior to submission.

2024 Medicine Summer Camps - PreMed Projects.

Aimed at students looking to undertake future study or forge careers in Medicine, Premed Projects are offering an exciting range of summer projects for students from Grade 9 to 12.

Summer Camps are running special 1-week and 2 week projects in the UK and in Thailand during the summer break in July and August 2024.  the camps are specific to student needs and are designed for students from all over the world to participate.

The Summer camps offer medical work experience projects which are designed to combine learning about life as a doctor with an unforgettable travel experience.

The Summer Camps will allow students to spend weekdays shadowing highly skilled doctors in their day-to-day work on a fully-supervised hospital placement. Students will also have the benefit of clinical teaching, safe and secure accommodation, food, airport transfers, local orientations, 24/7 support from our staff teams, and lots of help with preparations for the trip.

The projects are either ONE or TWO week in duration and students should simply select the dates that suit them best:

30th June - 13th July 2024

14th July - 20th July 2024

21st July - 3rd August 2024

4th August - 10th August 2024

11th August - 17th August 2024

UDO Middle East Dance Championship is coming to Dubai...


Calling all dancers and dance lovers in the DAA High School community...


The UDO Middle East Street Dance Championships will take place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th February 2024 at GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis.


This electrifying event will see the best dancers from across the region converge in Dubai for a competitive showcase of high-energy and dynamic street dance. Whether your child loves hip-hop or breakdancing, popping or locking, this event promises an array of styles from dancers of all ages. 


Supported by family and friends, student dancers will have the chance to showcase their amazing skills and win trophies, prizes and ultimately be crowned a street dance champion. And that’s not all, participants can also gain qualification to the UDO World Street Dance Championships held at the prestigious Blackpool Winter Gardens in the UK, in August 2024.


The competition is open to all countries, and dancers of all ages and levels are welcome from beginner to advanced.

Electronics Engineer for a Day - Heriot-Watt University Dubai - 26th January 2024 


Heriot-Watt University Dubai is an international satellite campus of respected UK/Scottish university Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh.  Named "Best University" in the Middle East in 2019, the Heriot-Watt campus in Dubai International Academic City has received a five-star rating for three consecutive years in 2019, 2020 and 2021 from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the supreme educational quality assurance and regulatory authority of the Government of Dubai. 


The Heriot-Watt Dubai Engineering Department is offering a number of workshops for aspiring engineers and scientists in 2024.


The first workshop of the year takes place on Friday 26th January between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.


The workshop is entitled "Electronics Engineer for a Day


The workshop will be a fun and interactive opportunity for students to learn the process of designing their very own Printed Circuit Board (PCB) from scratch!

 

Students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 can participate in the workshop in person at the Heriot-Watt campus OR online.

Notice from 5th January 2024 - PreMed Projects - Medical Ethics Live - Saturday 20th January 2024

PreMed Projects, a UK-based external provider of work experience options within the healthcare industry, are hosting an online seminar event on 20th January entitled “Ethics Live”.

The event is aimed at students aged 14-18 and is free of charge.  500 places are available.

The event focuses on current ethical debates within healthcare and has been created by doctors for students interested in careers in medicine.

Notice from 5th January 2024 - Veritas AI National High School Data Science Competition 2024 

Veritas AI is excited to announce the The National High School Data Science Competition The competition is the world’s largest AI and data science competition for high school students. 


The competition is founded by Harvard graduate students and presented by a consortium of organizations, including the Harvard Undergraduate Open Data Project. 


It is a platform for students to showcase their data science skills and creativity and compete on a national level.

The competition is free to enter and has $10,000+ in scholarships for winners.
