Summary: Provide an overview of organizations and departments on Guam that provide technical expertise/information to teachers, students, gardeners and farmers. Will also cover existing programs on Guam and publications for food production, and school and school and community gardens. Then will cover some key websites providing publications on sustainable agricultural information and practices. Many handouts from UOG CNAS CE&O web page on gardening and sustainable agriculture topics will be given out.

Biography: Bob Barber is an Extension Agricultural Economist he is the Chair of the Agriculture and Life Sciences Division in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. For over 20 years he has been the USDA sustainable agriculture coordinator for Guam. In the role he conducts workshop on gardening, farming, soil and water conservation, and has developed curriculum for training teachers and others basic principles of small fruit and vegetable production on small plots.

Summary: Join the Kontra I Kulepbla - Challenge the Snake campaign! Brown tree snake and Ko’ko’ bird biology, background, and issues will be introduced to link resources for students and teachers for research about Guam’s native and invasive animals.

Biography: Jane Dia is the Kontra I Kulepbla (KIK) Program Coordinator. The KIK Campaign aims to connect the community with snake control on Guam and encourage individuals to Challenge the Snake! Jane is trained in Rare Pride and other social marketing methodologies that encourage behaviour change for conservation benefit and was a GDOE science teacher and English as a Second Language instructor.

Wildlife Damage Management: The WS Guam Program

Summary: Overview of the national Wildlife Services program – purpose and mission. Overview of the WS Guam program, some discussion of invasive species, and the how WS Guam address problems here on Guam.

Biography: Marc is certified wildlife biologist with degrees in Range and Wildlife Science. Marc has been a biologist with WS Guam for twelve years and has managed the Canine Program to prevent the spread of the brown tree snake, he has also worked with airports to reduce hazards from bird strikes, and is familiar with control of deer and pigs. Marc has worked with a variety of species during his wildlife career and is interest in conservation, ecology, and invasive species management.
