Classes at The New School
Most of my time was spent at The New School or Parsons. I attended two classes there: fashion design and construction. Each of these classes contributed to various aspects of my project. The construction class focused on drapery and honing construction skills, emphasizing the logistical aspects of garment making. Throughout this course, I learned traditional draping techniques, enabling me to create structurally viable garments. Additionally, we explored various methods of creating flat patterns, such as paper pattern making, which allows designs to be translated onto paper for further modifications and alterations. Concurrently, while enrolled in the construction class at Parsons, I also participated in a fashion design class, where I primarily developed my final piece. Collaborating with a group of stylists during this class, we worked to shape the garment and source additional elements to enhance its final appearance.
Mr. Troy Hul Arnold
Whilst working at the new school I also worked with my teacher Troy who helped me construct the final garment. Troy was originally my teacher in a fashion design class during the summer but ended up being my teacher in my other fashion design class. Troy let me work in his other classes during the week to give me extra time to create the garment. During those classes, I made a lot of friends and learned a lot about construction-based techniques for creating a garment (go to process of garment for more information). Without this extra time, I truly believe that this project would not be done so I am very grateful for Troy and what he has done for me.
