This week, we are focusing on CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning), including how to scaffold the process of constructing explanations. Students at every grade level will communicate their science understanding through writing a CER, either with their teacher, in small groups, or independently.Â
GCISD has set specific goals for each grade level to ensure the developmentally appropriate use of CER. Please review these goals and additional support materials in the slides and videos below.

Scaffolding for Scientific Explanations with CER
Review the scaffolding document for ideas on supporting students with CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning). The least supportive strategies are on the left, with more support provided as you move to the right. Consider starting with strategies on the right and gradually transitioning to those on the left.
Thank you Jason Crump for creating this easy to use support document!
