GES Families,
I am thrilled to be able to share with you the designs for our new playgrounds that have been finalized and approved by the district. If you have been following the recent School Board meetings, you have already heard that GES was approved to get 2 new playgrounds! These projects are made possible through funds from the 2016 GCISD Bond. We are planning for a summer installation and excited for our students to enjoy these new areas during the 21-22 school year.
Because of the 2016 Bond funds being allocated to replace both of our playgrounds, our PTA has been working closely with the campus on how their funds raised can continue to supplement the recess experience for our stars. After talking with the executive board, and polling staff, it has been proposed to purchase additional equipment on both playgrounds that would be separate from the structure, as well as provide additional games and resources for the recess areas. We are working on gaining approval for these donations so we can begin these projects as soon as possible.
All my best,
Nancy Hale
We have several dress-up days and special events over the next two weeks. We invite your child to dress up and participate with us as we finish this magical school year!

As we near the end of this school year, here are a few Seesaw tips for teachers, students, and families:
Current Seesaw classes will be archived by the district and will take place on July 30th.
Students will be able to access and add content to their current classes until July 30th, however it is completely optional for teachers to log into their Seesaw classes or reply to students during the summer.
When Seesaw classes are archived, families will still be able to see archived journals through the Seesaw Family app as long as the student is still active in the school.
Seesaw: End of Year Tips for Families
We recommend that families archive their work especially if you're leaving GES before the end of the school year.
Recently, some of our wonderful GES parents were brave enough to record stories by author Julia Cook for our students to enjoy. These books focus on social emotional development and "soft skills"... the skills kids need to function well in society. We are so thankful for this great resource! Take a look!
In the coming weeks, we will begin to develop our class lists for next school year. In creating these lists we take into account district guidelines and keep in mind the need to create a balanced classroom for our GES Stars. This process involves multiple variables. Below you will find some of the variables we will consider as we develop class lists for the 2021-2022 school year:
Gender balance
Academic mix
Personality and learning styles
Peer relationships
Class size
Special needs
The objective is to place all students with a teacher in a balanced class that will support individual learning and growth. At GES, we are very fortunate to have an exceptional group of teachers and staff to work with our students and families.
Families have the optional opportunity to fill out this student class information form. This form will not be used for requesting a teacher, but will give you a chance to share valuable information about your child. There will also be a spot for your child to share. We will NOT be honoring specific teacher requests. The form will be available online to families May 3-May 20. This form is optional, but will provide important information in helping guide your child's placement for next school year.
Registration is Now Open for All Students
New and returning students may now register for the 2021-2022 school year until May 21. GCISD is in the planning stages for the 2021-2022 school year. Please note that at this time during registration, families will not be committing to any form of instructional model (in-person, virtual, etc.). Those decisions will be made by families at a later date when more information is available.
Registration for both new and returning families is now open in Skyward. As a reminder, the primary guardian will need to complete the registration in Skyward Family Access. If you have forgotten your login and/or password, please click on Forgot login or password on the login screen and that information will be sent to your email.
Additionally, new and returning students who would like to register as a bus rider for the 2021-2022 school year in GCISD will need to do so by Friday, August 3. Bus stop information will be available on August 8. Bus rider registration is now included in the student registration process through Skyward. If you have specific questions regarding bus registration, please contact Manny Rubio in Transportation at 817-251-5590.
If you need additional assistance or have specific questions or concerns, please contact our campus directly.
college, career, and military day
Today is College, Career, and Military Day at GES! Thank you to the parents and/or adults in our GES Star homes that volunteered their time to speak live on Webex or sent a recording to share with our students! Consider having a conversation this evening about the following:
Ask your child some of these questions:
Would you like to work alone or in a group?
Would you rather work inside or outside?
Would you prefer working during the day or during the night?
Would you mind wearing a uniform?
Would you like to make things or to sell things?
Would you rather travel or stay close to home?
Would you like to work with your hands?
Would you prefer to give directions or to follow directions?
Would you rather use communication skills or math skills?
Have your child "interview" you about what you used to think about school and careers growing up.
What were your favorite school subjects?
What did you like to do with your free time?
What career did you think about when you were young?
Did you follow the career path you dreamed about when you were young?
Why or why not?
What obstacles were in the way of your career path?
What did your parents want you to do?
Who helped you make your career decision?
What did you learn in school that helped you the most?
What is your favorite thing about the work you do now?
What do you like least about the work you do now?
What skills did you learn in elementary school that you use in your work now?
What skills did you learn in elementary school that you use in your home life?

To support strong communication with our families beyond the school day, we are pleased to introduce a new resource available to our parents. Parent Internet Reporting is an on-demand tool for parents that allows guardians to view their children's online activity and increases the measures already taken to protect our students while using a District device. Through this platform, parents will receive weekly email reports summarizing internet activity on District devices, as well as the ability to access real-time reporting of what their students are doing online. In an effort to help our parents control screen time while students are home, the system will also allow for a guardian to pause the internet on a GCISD device.
In order to receive access to the Parent Internet Reporting tool and if you were not able to attend the virtual session on April 20, there is an online course that will explain the Parent Internet Reporting that needs to be attended. You must complete the course to receive access to the parent internet reporting tool. The course can be found at www.gcisd.net/ParentInternet.

Volunteers are significantly limited at this time, but there may be opportunities later in the year. Go ahead and apply now so you're ready when the time comes.
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/cms/one.aspx?pageId=195550
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
