GES families,
Each year, our campus is rated based on a number of data points and provided reports from both the state and federal government, which we are required to share with families. Below you will find information and links to both of those reports.
You will find a copy of the State of Texas 2019–20 School Report Card for Grapevine Elementary linked HERE. This report is required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures. Due to COVID-19, STAAR® assessments were canceled for the 2019–20 school year. Therefore, several data points have not been updated, including STAAR® and academic growth data.
The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and is briefly described in 2019–20 School Report Card Definitions linked HERE. The report for our school may or may not have all the information described because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school. State law requires that the School Report Card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status of the students and must include, at least, two years of results.
The School Report Cards can be found online at
A more complete report about GES, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available online at
https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/tapr/index.html.
In addition, Federal Report Cards for the state, the district and each of the district’s campuses are now available on the district’s website at this link: https://www.gcisd.net/departments/accountability/school_report_cards or are also available on the Texas Education Agency’s website at: https://tea.texas.gov/Finance_and_Grants/Grants/Federal_Report_Card/.
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is sharing this information about the district and your child’s campus with you as part of its obligations under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for your continued support of Grapevine Elementary.
Sincerely,
Nancy Hale
Our annual Vision and Hearing Screening Day will be Wednesday, February, 3rd. We will be screening all 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students, as well as, any new to GES 2nd and 4th grade students. The PreK and Kinder students were already screened this year individually by Nurse Lindsey. Our screening team will be taking extra COVID precautions this year and will be evaluating in-person learners only on this date. If your child wears glasses or contacts, please be sure they have them on Wednesday, in order to have the most accurate screening results. We appreciate your help in getting your student here on time and ready for their screening on Wednesday. If you have any questions about the screening process, please reach out to Nurse Lindsey at (817) 251-5742.
During our month of gratitude, please take a moment to thank a teacher who has gone above and beyond for your family. You can recognize them on our GES Teachers are Magical form. We will link it each week in this Monday Message and then share out the great things our "cast members" are doing during our monthly faculty meetings and weekly staff newsletters.
On the first Friday of the month, we typically wear college colors. Since this Friday falls before the Super Bowl, we are expanding that to include your favorite NFL team or colors, too!
This Wednesday is World Read Aloud Day! We will be celebrating at school by doing our 3rd nine weeks' Reading Drill. Each grade level will pick a time to go outside and read for 15 minutes. We encourage our remote learners to participate, as well. You might consider spending special reading time with your child at home or visiting a public library to celebrate! Mrs. Wahpekeche has also put together this list of resources: World Read Aloud Day.
Valentine Parties will look much like our Christmas parties did this year. They will be on Friday, Feb. 12th. Each team is choosing the best time for their party based on their daily schedule, which will be communicated in the grade level newsletters. Our PTA is coordinating party bags for all students that will be available for pick-up at school the week before parties.
PLEASE NOTE - Due to COVID-19, students will NOT be exchanging physical valentines this year. Please do not send cards, candy, treats, or Valentine boxes of any kind in with your child. Please understand this is a district-based decision in light of health and safety and not unique to GES.
Teachers will be doing fun Valentine activities with all students both in person and remote and will still make this a fun day for your child!
Feb. 1-5 is National School Counselor Appreciation Week! We are so thankful for all the ways that Mrs. Horn supports GES and GCISD! Consider how you or your students might show your appreciation this week.
It is important that all parents coming through the car lines for pick-up have a car sign. This helps to expedite our dismissal and ensures that we are sending students home with the right adults. If you are in need of a new car sign, please email regina.sharp@gcisd.net and we will send them home with your student. Thank you!
GCISD offers the "Play It Safe" program for all students in grades K-5. The GCISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC is a volunteer council comprised of parents and community members that reflect the values of the district and community) has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD elementary schools. The curriculum and presentations are aligned with district philosophy. This program is a personal safety program and does not address human sexuality. Play It Safe is a child abuse prevention and awareness program that incorporates individual grade level, age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce the risk of sexual and physical abuse, and sexual assault. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult.
The Women's Center of Tarrant County, Inc., uses trained employees to present a fact-based personal safety program for students. The presentations are classroom-based so that children are in a familiar environment, and feel comfortable to interact with the trainer. A video is shown, followed by a question and answer time.
GES will be virtually showing Play It Safe to in-person students on FEBRUARY 10TH. Parents have the option to request that their student not participate in the above program(s). The form for non-participation is located HERE.
A parent preview was hosted on January 12 at 10:00 AM via Zoom. This presentation was recorded and posted on the Elementary Counseling site for parents to watch at their convenience afterward.
Please contact The Women's Center of Tarrant County, Inc. at 817-927-4040 and ask for the Play It Safe department for specific questions.
As you know, we recently hosted an all school live stream event called NED’s Mindset Mission. We trust your student was encouraged by the show which taught about having a positive Mindset for learning and life!
Here are a couple of our favorite follow up home resources from the Mindset Mission website. You may want to use these with your child as they are designed to go hand in hand with the program.
If you'd like additional resources, they are available here.
And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about having a growth mindset from YET the Yeti, Captain Kindly and during NED’s visit on the spaceship!
Hear about each of our January Star Students of the Month HERE and why he or she was nominated!

GCISD is proud to be a part of a culturally diverse community. Our families come from various cultural backgrounds and speak numerous languages.
This May, the GCISD Diversity Advisory Council will be hosting a GCISD Virtual Multicultural Fair and we need YOU! We are looking for volunteers to showcase their own country, culture, or heritage.
Here are some ideas of ways to get involved: Create a slideshow about the country or culture you represent. You could also show examples of toys, books, arts and crafts and so much more! Or you could demonstrate how a particular musical instrument or an unusual kitchen tool works. It would be fun to show us how to play a certain popular game. How about a simple cooking demonstration of a famous dish or a demonstration of a cultural art technique, a dance step or a popular sport? The choice is yours!
If you're interested in participating as an individual or family, please fill out and submit this form by January 29.
Growing our students’ social-emotional skills is an important goal in GCISD. We strive to create global citizens who are skilled problem solvers, effective communicators, self-regulated learners and collaborative workers through our Portrait of a Graduate. In order to identify areas of strength, needs, and support, students will be completing an online survey similar to the survey they participated in during the fall semester. This survey aligns with Goal 2 of LEAD 2.0: designing learning environments that support social and emotional well-being and Goal 3: creating a culture that fosters learning environments that reflect student voice and promote student engagement.
The data we get back will help inform our educational practices and will help us continue to identify opportunities for growth and development across the District.
Beginning on Monday, January 25 through Friday, February 5, students will have the opportunity to complete the online survey during a designated class time. For students who are engaging in remote learning, an activity is currently in SeeSaw with instructions for participation.
The survey for students in third through twelfth-grade will ask a series of questions on the following topics: grades, classes, performance in school, behavior, student voice, and learning. Students in sixth through twelfth-grade will be asked an additional set of questions related to diversity. Students in pre-kindergarten through second grade will be assessed on teacher perception of grit, self-management, social awareness, self-efficacy and learning strategies. The information collected will be used by the teacher and campus leaders to provide necessary support for all students.
If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact our campus counselor, Mrs. Horn @ angela.horn@gcisd.net.
Join the DFW COVID-19 Prevalence Study to help researchers better understand how common COVID-19 is in Dallas and Tarrant counties. By volunteering, you will help guide decisions being made in our communities to keep you and your family safe and healthy. The study is being conducted by UT Southwestern and Texas Health Resources.
To participate in the study, visit www.utswmed.org/covidstudy and complete a brief survey.
Some people will then be asked to complete a brief survey and offered free COVID-19 testing and a $20 gift card.
Others will be asked to complete a 10-minute survey about their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every 50th person who submits a completed survey will receive a $20 gift card.
In partnership with the Grapevine Community Outreach Center, the GCISD Language Assessment Center will begin offering online courses for adults. These free courses will be self-paced and will provide skills in English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Literacy, as well as GED support. The flyers can be viewed and shared here in English and Spanish.
Next school year, the College Board will be requiring school districts to pay a fee if they use the Pre-AP label for any of their courses. This fee is an annual fee that is per course, per campus. GCISD along with many neighboring districts, have decided not to purchase the use of the Pre-AP label in an effort to remain fiscally responsible.
Beginning in the 2021-22 school year, GCISD will be implementing the title change to “Advanced” for all courses formerly known as Pre-AP. This change will be reflected in the 2021-22 Course Selection Guide set to release in January of 2021. As an example, Pre-AP World History will now be labeled as World History Advanced.
GCISD will use AP's guidelines to ensure the rigor of both middle school and high school courses. Classes now labeled “Advanced” will remain the same weight as the PreAP courses they are replacing. GCISD will continue to work with the College Board through our AP offerings.
GCISD Technology Resources is committed to serving students and staff, especially during the District's remote learning instruction. Please keep in mind these very helpful resources:
ClassLink - GCISD's single sign-on portal for students and staff. ClassLink allows users to sign in once and have access to all of their accounts at the click of a button.
Help Desk - Students and staff can submit help requests to GCISD's Help Desk at any time. If you need your student's password reset, or are having trouble accessing ClassLink, please call 817-251-5629 during our extended help desk hours. For all other issues with student devices, please fill out a help ticket at help.gcisdstudents.net.
Outdoor WiFi Access - As a reminder, wireless network access is available outside of many GCISD campuses for use by students, parents and staff. Click here for locations, maps and instructions on how to connect.
All grade level newsletters will also be sent out weekly directly to families from your homeroom teachers. Grade level newsletters can be accessed using the links below.
Volunteers are significantly limited at this time, but there may be opportunities later in the year. Go ahead and apply now so you're ready when the time comes.
In order to volunteer at GES, or around GCISD, all volunteers must:
read the Volunteer Handbook (this replaces the previous face to face volunteer trainings held on campus)
watch the appropriate video included in the handbook
electronically sign the verification Google form for each campus you plan to volunteer
complete the volunteer background check. A link is included in the handbook.
The following link takes you to the online Volunteer Handbook and background check: https://www.gcisd.net/cms/one.aspx?pageId=195550
When you are ready to volunteer at GES, feel free to call the front office at 817-251-5735 to verify that both of the required steps have been recorded as completed. We appreciate your support as you complete these steps and volunteer to work with our GES students.
