GES Families,
I am officially back on campus this week and excited to kick off Literacy Week with our students and staff. Reading is the foundation for all other learning and we have the privilege in elementary school of teaching our students to read. More importantly, we want to develop a love of reading in our students that lasts a lifetime!
We have many fun themes planned for this week and hope your student will join us in dressing up! See the flyer below for information regarding the specific days. We will be doing lots of reading in school and celebrating in a variety of ways.
In addition, we would like to thank our PTA for purchasing a special Dr. Seuss themed program that students will have the opportunity to watch tomorrow during their lunches. For remote students, we will share the link through Seesaw to watch when they would like.
We encourage you to take time this week to read with your child, visit the public library, download an audio book, and making reading fun!
All my best,
Nancy Hale
For some of our families, providing a nutritious snack each day to assist their GES star’s performance throughout the day does not happen consistently because of food insecurities. If you are able, please donate individually packaged Goldfish or pretzels in order to help us provide that snack for students who arrive at school without it because of the insecurities. If you would like to order on Amazon, and send donations directly to campus, you can find a link HERE. This would not pertain to students that simply forgot a snack that day. If your Star forgets his/her snack often, sending multiple days worth of snacks might help. For questions, please feel free to contact Angela Horn at angela.horn@gcisd.net or 817-251-5740. Thank you for your continued generosity and thoughtfulness.
Has a GES staff member gone above and beyond for your child? Please take a moment to thank a teacher who has made an impact for your family. You can recognize them on our GES Teachers are Magical form. We will link it each week in this Monday Message and then share out the great things our "cast members" are doing during our monthly faculty meetings and weekly staff newsletters.
Just a reminder that our 4th girls and 5th grade boys and girls puberty videos are coming up on March 11th and 12th. A preview of these videos was available in the fall. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Lindsey at 817-251-5742.
There were a number of individuals from our facilities department who helped clean up our campus and prepare it for students after a broken pipe during our winter storm. These individuals worked around the clock not only at GES, but on several campuses and we are so grateful for their dedication. Our PreK and Kinder classes that were impacted made them cards that we will be sharing this week. If you feel so inclined, reach out with an email or send a thank you to campus and we will be sure to get it to them.
Facilities team: Ivan Lum, Ken Coble, Mike Russell, Mike Driscoll
Custodians: Mr. Nino, Carlos Rubio, Maria Hernandez, Lilia Valadez
We are having a Spirit Night at Spring Creek BBQ on Tuesday, March 9th! We are encouraging online pre-orders and curbside pick-up. You can order at springcreekbarbeque.com or on their mobile app. In-store dining is open (5pm-9pm) as well as curbside pickup (5pm-8:30pm). There will not be a class contest this year BUT the first 75 pick-up orders will receive a prize pack! Staff members will be running out curbside meals and prize packs rather than carrying meals inside. Spring Creek will donate 20% of all the evening’s proceeds to the school. All money raised will go towards our campus literacy goals!
We will have another hat day next Tuesday, March 9th to support CHHS Project Graduation. Donations of $1 can be made virtually through Venmo @CHHS-ProjectGraduation or through Paypal using the following LINK. We are not accepting donations in person this year as seniors are not allowed on campus to collect.
This year Open House will look different. What remains the same, is that it will be a celebration of your child's hard work and growth throughout the year. There will not be a synchronous evening time with families. Instead, students will create something that they can share with their families about what they're learning and doing in school. Be on the lookout for information from your child's teacher or in their grade level newsletter during the week of March 8-12.
This month's character quality in classroom guidance lessons, Circle Up topics, and throughout GES is RESPONSIBILiTY! Browse our Responsibility Newsletters below for ideas of how to partner with us from home.
I am here and ready to help! At any time this year, whether learning remotely or in-person, please click the I want to talk with Mrs. Horn form to request a visit. This form is also be included in grade level newsletters and Seesaws, and stays housed in my email signature, on the GES Counseling district website, and as many locations as possible.
This is a live Google Calendar that we will keep updated throughout the year with campus activities. Click the calendar to open it up so you can switch to week or month view and look at future dates. Please check back frequently for new additions.
Have you been wondering how to plug into the GES PTA or what leadership positions are available? We know the current pandemic has made many things difficult, including knowing how to help your child's school or where you can even get involved! We have partnered with the Londoner for a socially-safe, outdoor evening on March 2nd for parents to come see us and find the answers to your questions! Appetizers included!
Leadership will be on-hand from 5:30 to 7:30 pm to help you better understand who we are, what we do, and what opportunities there are for you to help both this year and into the 2021-22 school year. Let us know if you can come, or if you cannot make it but would love to be included in a virtual Q&A meeting, please fill out this form! Registration is required to attend!
Please join us on March 11th at 6:00 pm for our General Membership Meeting and a fun Magic Show for student members! We will be voting on several items including the 2021 Nominating Committee.
A Special Election will be held for a new President-Elect. On February 1st, President-Elect Melanee Warren stepped down from her role to focus on other needs. The GES PTA Executive Board nominated Lyndsey Hill to be presented to Membership as the new President-Elect. Should Lyndsey be elected with a majority vote, she will then complete this year as President-Elect and serve as the GES PTA President for the 2021-22 school year.
To receive a meeting link for the General Meeting & Magic Show, please fill out this form no later than March 9th.
Each year we designate money in the budget to give back to the school. Anyone can apply for capital improvements, and our goal in awarding the money will be to ensure that each item benefits the maximum amount of students. Have something you want to request funds for? Please fill out this request form by Friday, March 12th.
We are also still looking for members to serve on the Capital Improvements Committee. Members of this committee will meet virtually at the end of March to review Capital Improvements applications and select recipients. If you would like to volunteer for this committee, please email VP of Communications Lyndsey Hill at communications@gespta.org.

Do you plan to attend GCISD schools next year but are not currently enrolled? Let us know you are coming! As GCISD prepares for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year, it is vital that the District have accurate enrollment predictions in order to properly staff for the number of students that will be attending school.
If you have children who are not enrolled in GCISD for 2020-2021, but will be enrolling for 2021-2022, we ask that you complete this Intent to Enroll form prior to March 12.
You DO need to complete the form if your child(ren)...
- Did not attend GCISD in 2020-2021 (for any reason), but will attend in 2021-2022
- Is entering Pre-K in GCISD in August 2021
- Is entering Kindergarten in GCISD in August 2021 AND did NOT attend Pre-K in GCISD
Please DO NOT complete the form if your child(ren)...
- Attended GCISD for the 2020-2021 school year, including Pre-K students
This form in no way obligates families to attend school in GCISD in 2021-2022, and it is also not a formal registration. Information regarding registration will be shared in the coming months.
If you know a family that may need to complete the form, please share this information with them. Thank you for your assistance in preparing for the 2021-2022 school year.
There are a few more spots available in GCISD’s Tuition Based Pre-K program for the 2021-2022 school year! You can find information regarding tuition, campus availability and more on the GCISD Pre-K Website.
Students that may qualify for state-based Pre-K will be able to begin registration for the upcoming school year in April 2021.
As Dr. Ryan shared earlier in the week, due to the additional instructional minutes we have built into our calendars, we will not need to add any days to the 2020-2021 school year. We will need to modify our end of year early dismissal days for elementary and middle school students, and we will communicate more information regarding that schedule as we get closer to May. Additionally, students will still have off the regularly scheduled bad weather days on Friday, April 2, and Friday, April 30. Staff who were originally scheduled to be off on Friday, April 2, and Friday, April 30 will have those two days off.
The Spring Interim Assessment window is approaching. During the window, February 16- March 31, all district-issued student CHROMEBOOKS (grades 5-8) will be placed in KIOSK mode for test security purposes for the remainder of the school year beginning February 16, 2021. To exit KIOSK mode, students will need to hold down the CTRL-ALT-S key combination.
