Lesson 10.3: Socialism

What was utopian socialism? What was Robert Owen's vision for an "ideal" economic system? What problems did Owen see with free-market capitalism, as it was practiced in the mid-1800s?

In class on February 22, I will present an introduction to early socialism to the class. If you are absent, you will need to complete the student-paced Peardeck lesson below. Then move on to the reading & question assignment on Robert Owen and watch the video (Edpuzzle) on New Lanark.

As part of our look at socialism, we are also going to look at some modern ideas and examples of democratic socialism. In class on Feb. 22 & 24, we will be viewing and discussing the video below. If you are absent, please plan to complete the corresponding assignment by going to this assignment link.

EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY! Learn more about Sweden's economic system (and little more conservative perspective of Sweden's system) by watching the documentary, "Sweden: Lessons for America" and completing a few questions while you watch.
