What was British rule over India like? How did Mohandas K. Gandhi lead a non-violent revolution for India's independence?
First, gain some background knowledge on British Rule in India, by reading this article and answering the corresponding questions.
Next, we will read a primary source from Mohandas Gandhi on why he led a nonviolent independence movement against the British. (If you are absent from class, please select this link to complete the assignment).
On March 17 & 19, we will watch clips from the movie Gandhi. Through this film you will learn how and why Gandhi used nonviolent methods in the independence movement against Great Britain. This is not a movie that is "free" on any video service that I am aware of. I will try to record the video clips that I show in class and will post them at a later date (for those who are absent).
