For my research it was well developed and helped with my shaping of not only ideas but mechanics as I developed them as ideas and part of the game itself. Listing out different ideas and all that I originally planned to create helped with the development of the final product as I had a clear idea of the final product I wanted. Even if the list had elements that I didn't use and wasn't 100% accurate the lists helped with having a focus on ideas that develop my other ideas generation pieces and create a more physical image of my work.
The Research I did however was originally into the idea of a secondary project so it's relevancy falls off in direct correlation however it did help me understand I wasn't fully invested on my first idea and started to develop the project idea for my proposal. This lead my into making multiple research boards that focused the idea in a visual manor.
Failed 1st Initial Idea:
Research I initially used to start developing my 1st idea game: Helped shape my idea but at the same time made me realize my lack of motivation towards the project. In the end I did extensive research into Top down turn based strategy games for UI and Level design which even though was never used helped with ideas for UI and developing my 2nd idea using my further research.
My idea for my 2nd Game (when I started to change my idea to the 2nd and futher develop it).
On the other hand my Interactivity, Sound and Visual production research did play into my development of my final proposal game as it looked into games and combat that was similar to my proposal idea: It helped a lot with understanding of how I wanted to set up my combat, and even though my final combat isn't exactly the same it was built on top of the ideas from the games I looked into in my initial researches which helped majorly for clarity of a vision so I could better know how to start my code and build my game through reference.
Katana Zero:
When it came to the Sound and games that didn't fit with the idea I worked on, although the games themselves didn't fit with what I wanted to work on there were principles I looked into that helped into the ideas development section seeing how sounds and animation can be used for delivering information and smooth gameplay to the player and what can be adapted towards the development. Leading to things like we adding animations into the game even without needing them because the clarity of movement I thought was important to convey messages to the player.
When it comes to learning skills during the ideas generation stage I started to develop some skills not only the ones needed for the things I wanted achieve in my game but also others, looking into art and other areas. For example a new skill I picked up was how to make logos in Unity to create a logo for my game's Main menu.
Other than picking up skills like these for the sake of learning and creating assets for the game I also started to develop my coding skills through the use of tutorials, changing my logical thinking as I became more accustomed to the use of code.
