Homework for spelling for the week will be to complete 3 items on the Spelling Contract based on the words missed on their pretest. Those who make a 100 on the pretest are exempt from the spelling contract/homework as they know the spelling patterns and words and will not have to test on Friday.
Friday -Test *only on the missed words from Monday's pretest
Nonsense Words
Practice with these words at home. This link is a quick video of me reading the words.
Reading nonsense words are vital to phonics instruction because it forces the reader to use their letter sound knowledge to read the word instead of memorization.
Reading Log
To ensure that students are reading on a regular basis at home, reading logs will be sent home weekly to be filled out showing what book students read and for how long each day. This will need to be signed by parents.
This started last week.
Reading logs will be sent home on Monday and collected the following Monday.
Students have completed the iReady Beginning of the Year Diagnostic.
After completing the diagnostic, students will begin working on lessons for their path on skills that they need to work on.
Weekly iReady expectations have been sent home.
I will begin meeting with small groups while others work on journal writing, independent reading, and reading skills.
We have been getting on chromebooks and joining and signing into various websites we may use throughout the year. All login information will be on a sheet that we will staple to the front of their planner.
Students have joined my Google Classroom, logged into a site, Epic!, that has books to read online, and other reading sites.
We are starting Studies Weekly, Week 3 "Rights and Responsibilities". We will be learning about our rights and responsibilities as citizens of North Carolina.
Students should continue to work on learning their emergency contact information!
