Garner ISD School Counseling Mission:
At Garner ISD, our school counselors are here to support students every step of the way. We focus on helping Longhorns grow academically, explore future career paths, and build the skills they need for happy, healthy lives. Counselors partner with teachers, families, and the community to provide a well-rounded program that encourages student success in school and beyond.
At Garner ISD, our comprehensive Guidance and Counseling program is built around four key components that work together to support every student.
Garner ISD guidance curriculum is designed to support every student. Counselors work with teachers to help Longhorns build important skills, set goals, and reach their full potential. This program grows with students from kindergarten through 12th grade, meeting their needs at each stage of development.
Garner ISD counselors are ready to step in when challenges arise—whether personal, social, or academic. Counselors are specially trained to support students in times of need, from prevention and early intervention to more serious concerns or crises. By responding quickly and effectively, they help Longhorns stay on track with their learning, growth, and overall well-being. Responsive services include: prevention services (before an issue becomes problematic), remedial services (response after an issue or in response to a situation), and crisis services (critical incident and immediate level of intervention.)
Responsive services include individual counseling; parent consultation to discuss student needs; outside referrals when needed.
Individual planning helps students set goals, track progress, and make plans for their education, future careers, and personal growth. It’s all about guiding Longhorns as they create their own path to success.
Individual planning is not limited to GISD counselors. Teachers and staff may also assist students with personalized academic and career goals.
System support is the “behind-the-scenes” work that keeps our counseling program running strong. While students see counselors directly through guidance lessons, responsive services, and individual planning, system support ensures everything works smoothly. This includes working with teachers, parents, and the community, using data to improve services, and advocating for student needs. It’s the foundation that helps our Longhorns thrive.
