By evaluating  personality traits, interests, and skills needed, these assessments and inventories can assist in career exploration and decision making. Remember, Parsons's theory said the first step in career exploration is to get to know yourself (McDaniels, 1994).  The values, traits, and interests you uncover might lead to some specific career fields. Keep in mind these assessments can be useful, but don't forget the third key point to Parsons's theory, "seek true reasoning through counseling" (McDaniels, 1994, p. 3).
