Instruction in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Required cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for school district and open-enrollment charter school students in grades 7 through 12 has been expanded to include the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Each student shall receive this instruction at least once before graduation.
In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256, beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:
Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or
Submit a signed opt-out form.
Instruction on Proper Interaction with Peace Officers
The SBOE adopted a new rule in Title 19 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), §74.39, Requirements for Instruction on Proper Interaction with Peace Officers, that became effective August 27, 2018. This rule requires school districts and charter schools to provide instruction to students in grades 9-12 on proper interaction with peace officers during traffic stops and other in-person encounters.
