Students wishing to take concurrent classes from SNOW, SUU, and/or Utah Tech University need to know that the classes will transfer to other institutions within the state. It may transfer as a general education requirement or simply an elective. If you are not planning on pursuing a General Education Completion Certificate or an Associates Degree you need to know that there are occasions where a gen ed class at one institution may not meet the same requirement at another institution. Students should consult the general education requirements at the institution they are planning to attend. If a student earns a General Education Completion Certificate, that will guarantee that their General Education classes will be accepted at any state college/university within our state.

Any 11th grade student wishing to complete the Associates Degree or the Gen Ed Certificate need to visit Ms. Norton or Mr. Bennett and fill out the form so that you are on their radar and will help make sure you take the right classes.
Associates Degree - Students wanting to complete an associates degree during high school need to notify Ms. Norton and/or Mr. Bennett to set up a meeting with an academic adviser to keep you on track. This needs to be done at the start of the program.
Reasons to take a college class:
#1: A class/subject looks interesting to you.
#2: Get some or all general education courses done before finishing high school so a student can jump into program (Major/Minor) classes quicker.
#3: To take something different or challenge yourself with something that the high school doesn't offer.
#4: Affordability now verses higher tuition costs later. Currently it is $5 per credit hour plus materials/books.
#5: Possibility of reaching college graduation requirements quicker therefore graduating earlier and entering the workforce quicker.
Warning!!!
These are college level classes. Because of this there are higher expectations from students.
#1: Grades earned in college classes will end up on your high school transcript. They are not changed or weighted on your high school transcript due to difficulty.
#2: Poor grades earned in concurrent classes will affect GPA and eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities. This includes sports.
#3: If you struggle attending your regular classes or are consistently late, this may not be the best choice for you.
#4: By taking concurrent classes you are creating a college transcript that will follow you for the rest of your life. Poor grades can affect your ability to get grants, to be admitted into college programs, and later graduate programs.
#5: Poor grades can also hinder your ability to get financial aid in the future.
#6: The fee to take a concurrent class from SUU, UTU and SNOW is $5 per credit hour plus any materials or text books. This is very affordable. If a student fails a college class and IF it is available then the student has to pay the full tuition to retake the class.
#7: If a student takes classes but not sure what to study in college, they can often get there with no clue what to take next.
#8: Once a student registers into the class adding or dropping that class are based upon the college's academic calendar not the high school's. If students wait too long to drop a class they will receive a "W" on their college transcript. If they wait even longer they could get to the point that they would receive an "F" for dropping the course. As stated above if a student gets an "F" it will go back on their high school transcript.
#9: If you don't like the grade your student gets, your student will need to take their concerns to the college that gave that grade. Panguitch High School has no power or ability to change your college grades.
#10: Due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) parents do not have the right to call the college or professor and talk in behalf of their student. To check your student's grades ask them to show you their Canvas to see assignments and grades given.
