Number of Courses to Maintain in Your Timetable
"Students should take four courses a semester until they have 24 credits. When you have 24 credits, you may take three courses per semester" .... IF you are on track to graduate. How to drop a course: Grade 12 Students
Regular Drop: 4 courses to 3 courses
Grade 12 students may drop from 4 to 3 courses at anytime. Students must see their guidance counsellor before or afterschool or during an apt. to complete a "Drop a Course" form. Drops are FINALIZED when a VP signs the drop form.
Part-time Status Drop: 3 courses to 2 courses
Grade 12 Students may drop from 3 to 2 with permission from a VP. Students are NOT permitted to drop to only 1 course. Here is how:
1. Drop into Guidance during the Scheduled Drop In times posted to fill in a Part-time Status Application Form
2. Ensure that you have fullfilled all the requirements to graduate. Ensure that if you drop the course, it does not jepordize you fullfilling your graduation requirements.
4. Complete the Part-time Status Application Form and return it to Ms. Zacatenco in the Guidance Office.
5. Once received, your application will be sent to Administration for consideration. Your application will be include your credit counselling and attendance summary.
6. You will get a confirmation email from Ms. Zacatenco once your application has been accepted and the course dropped. You may also get a message if there is an issue with your application and your course cannot be dropped.
Please note the following:
Grade 9 and 10 students are not permitted to drop any courses from their timetable at any time during the year.
Grade 12 students: During each semster, you may apply for part-time status at mid-term only. Students have up to 5 days AFTER mid-semester report card distribution. You must drop the course BEFORE the full disclosure date (ask the Guidance office for this date as it varies every semester) if you do not want the course to show up on your transcript.
What is Full Disclosure?
All Grade 11 and 12 students who withdraw from a course within five instructional days following the issue of the first provincial report card will not have the withdrawn course recorded on their Ontario Student Transcript (OST). For those students who choose to withdraw from a course after five instructional days following the issue of the first provincial report card, the withdrawal is recorded on the OST with a “W”. The percentage grade received by the student at the time of withdrawal will also be recorded. Students are to follow the Request to Drop a Course procedure for Full Disclosure. Please note that the course and a mark may appear on a midterm report card but will not appear on a final transcript if dropped by the Full Disclosure Date.
