A Dover Student-Led Activity (SLA) is a club, society or activity taking place in the UWCSEA Dover campus that seeks to enrich and engage students in grades 9-12, that is registered with the Student-Led Activities Management (SLAW) group. The SLA program seeks to accomplish the key objectives of fostering student leadership, encouraging autonomy and independent exploration of ideas, and bringing value to as many students as possible, especially for skills and knowledge relevant to the futures of SLAs.
The minimum requirement for all active SLAs to fulfill are:
Having at least 8 members, excluding leaders
Having a maximum of three student leaders
Involving a teacher supervisor, with a fixed venue
Taking regular attendance, with no less than 50% of possible sessions being conducted
Having a specific activity focus and action plan (renewed every year)
*exceptions are on a case-by-case basis, and are typically only granted for Teacher-Led Activity
In this situation, make sure to ask around to see if there are at least ten people also interested in this niche. An activity that is too specific generally faces pitfalls in achieving the minimum requirements, as they fail to garner sufficient interest
In this case, your proposal would be flagged for clash with another activity's subject material. Remember to discuss any issues you have with an SLA with SLAW first, before trying to start a different activity
This is a tricky subject -
Step 1 - Fill out the New Activity Proposal Form, which will provide SLAW and the Activities Office with all necessary information about your activity
Step 2 - After the first round of approval, a SLAW planning document will be forwarded to you to complete
Step 3 - After the completion of the planning document, you may have to come in to give a live pitch/engage in discourse with a SLAW expert to further develop your activity plan
Step 4 - If your activity passes through these stages, it will receive a conditional offer of continuation lasting for approximately one season, where you will be required to achieve the minimum requirements as shown above
Step 5 - After accepting the conditional offer, student leaders will be required to attend Leadership and Safeguarding Training.
Step 6 - Once approved, activities will be registered on CIMS and updated on the Activities website.
*The entire process will take 4 – 6 weeks (excluding term breaks) before the next sign-up dates. Please refer to the Activities Season Calendar. However, expect a buffer time of two weeks before any official acceptance, and this is expected to reset if there are any iterations in your proposal
Get a teacher supervisor to supervise the activity.
Proposed fees, costs, and budgeting, if any - typically, SLAs are intentioned to be nonprofit and free for students
Propose a Day, Time, Venue, and Teacher Supervisor

All of this information should be declared on the New Activity Proposal Form
