Purpose: Gain real‑world experience beyond the classroom.
Learn about work etiquette: punctuality, professional behaviour and appropriate dress
Practice CV writing, cover letters, and professional role‑play.
Develop resilience (e.g., experiencing and learning from rejection).
Explore interests for IB subject and career choices.
Preferred: Student‑arranged (about 40–50% do this).
WOL at the parent’s workplace: is possible, though we discourage this (perhaps places can be offered to friends/ other students instead).
Backups: Should this prove unsuccessful, we will offer some placements that have been offered by UWC parents/ contacts/ Alumni/ within school.
No strict limits: we ask hosts to design meaningful tasks (not just making tea!).
Possible examples: multi‑department rotation, research project, or office shadowing.
Students may do the experience abroad.
However, students who do must return for exam feedback and reflection week.
Students prepare documents: CV and cover letter during mentor time (templates provided).
Find placement: Use personal contacts first. Send CV and targeted cover letter.
Apply for school‑organised spots (if needed): Send CV, targeted cover letter, and complete an online video interview.
Confirm placement: Complete required paperwork to get Letter of Consent (LOC) if on a Dependent/Student Pass (organised by the school).
Three‑way agreement signed by student, parent, and host.
Hosts confirm safeguarding standards.
Role‑play sessions teach how to handle awkward or unsafe situations.
Support CV/ resumé and cover letter writing process
Use personal networks: friends, professionals, service providers.

Consider extending the placement period into the Summer Break to get more out of it
