The units of study give students the opportunity to explore concepts by drawing together elements of the different subject areas into a meaningful whole. While focused largely on Science and/or Humanities, the units of study can also incorporate aspects of the Literacy, Mathematics, Art, Music and Languages curricula.
Below is an overview of the units of study in K1. Please note that teachers will spend more or less time on the units, depending on the needs of their particular group of students.
Term 1
Mindful Sensory Connections
This unit is an investigation into ourselves, our classroom and school community and families; how we learn and change in these environments. The students will have the opportunity to revisit this Unit of Study each term and focus on how they have grown and changed through the year.
Caring for our Outdoor Environments: This unit focuses on living things and how they grow, change and develop over time. We will develop an awareness of the need to stay healthy and the importance of making mindful choices. We will focus on understanding how our actions can impact our own lives and the environment in which we live.
Term 2
We are Storytellers (Exploration and Arts Festival Focus)
Term 3
Wondering Projects (Science and Collaboration Focus)
