macOS Sequoia is the latest operating system available from Apple.
"Apple's macOS updates have been so dull lately, the most interesting part of last year's macOS Sonoma ended up being widgets. Widgets! Thankfully, macOS Sequoia has a lot more going on — or at least it will, once Apple Intelligence rolls out over the next few months. For now, though, Sequoia delivers a few helpful features like iPhone Mirroring, a full-fledged Passwords app and automatic transcription in the Notes app. At the very least, it's got a lot more going on than widgets."

As is always the case, you should backup your files in case the worst should happen. The easiest solution is to sign into iCloud and turn on iCloud Drive Desktop & Documents folder backups. See the Apple support article here.
You can also backup to your network folder or external storage devices by doing a simple drag-and-drop.
You may be prompted with notifications on your screen that there is an update available, or you can download the update through System Settings > General > Software Update.
Your laptop MUST have 50% charge or be plugged in to perform the update.
Save your work and close any open apps.
Be prepared to wait up to 45 minutes for the installation to finish. The lid of the laptop must remain open.
