If you want your data on your own hard drive
Remember that you are responsible for having a backup of your data.
In many cases, the way modern Apple laptops are built, the hard drive where your data is stored is a part of the motherboard of the computer. If the computer needs serviced and the motherboard is replaced there will be no way to retrieve your data.
Review these best-practices
Avoid eating or drinking near the laptop. Even a little water spilled can cause the computer to fail and result in data loss.
Continuously back up your data to the cloud or physical media to avoid data loss (and possibly tears).
Never write down or give away your password to anyone. Lock your screen or log off if you plan on being away.
Avoid extremely hot & cold environments (like vehicles). Transport your laptop with care (closed & in a padded bag). Avoid putting items on the screen or keyboard as it may crack the screen.
Unless otherwise directed, regularly perform software updates when prompted.
Allow the battery to drain once in awhile. Keeping the laptop plugged in 100% of the time can actually lower the lifespan of the battery.
Keep your screen clean with products meant for a computer screen (such as iKlear) and use a clean microfiber towel. Remember to spray the towel, not the screen.
If your laptop is having an issue: restart it. This simple step can prevent headaches and is likely one of the first things that will be asked of you if you seek help.
