Any remaining 9th gens checked out to students at schools that have new devices need to turn them in ASAP. Elementary students need these devices.
Elementary admins have been notified that it may take 2-3 weeks into the school year before we're able to get K-2 students their iPads.
All High schools and HDM, PBM, CMS, RMS, SVM are starting the year with brand-new 2025 iPads with Logitech Rugged Combo 4 cases that include a built-in keyboard and trackpad.
Elementary Schools and LPM, PCM have 9th gen iPads only.
Any other iPad models besides the 11th and 9th gen iPads should be brought downtown by your Client Services tech.
All iPads should have a district-supplied case on it when it's checked out to students.
There's a fine in Destiny that can be applied for a case that's been damaged. Logitech cases are a $109 fine. A regular case is $19. If a student damages a case, fine them and issue a replacement.
During the warranty year, keyboards with manufacturer defects will be replaced through the warranty process—facilitated by IT. However, keyboards showing visible damage at check-in will incur the full $109 replacement charge.
We understand $109 is a significant cost for families, and we share your concerns. Regardless, we must clearly communicate to students that they are responsible for their learning equipment and also for the replacement costs if items are damaged. Students need to treat the case like a textbook and return it without stickers, writing or other modifications.
Folks issuing 9th gen iPads with a NEW case will notice that we have a new vendor, BumpArmor. We are trying this brand and welcome feedback on their durability as we get further along in the school year.
Initial student passwords can be found in Synergy. The initial student password is a randomly generated 6 character string. We recommend students grade K-5 leave this password as-is. We recommend students grade 6+ change this password to something only they know. Students grade 6+ can change their password by using the "Password" web clip on their student iPad. Passwords can be reset by staff using the BLS Staff Tools. This will generate a temporary, random 6 character password and when the student signs in they will be prompted to create a new password.
Passwords should be handled responsibly by staff. Passwords should be NOT be written down or on a label stuck on student iPads.
Verify with your school that insurance is being promoted in communications to parents and students.Â
Soon after school starts, iPads must be inspected by you, the Tier 1’s, before insurance can be purchased.
Insurance covers the iPad - NOT the keyboard case!
Because iPads are not being checked out in Destiny, iPads should not be going home.
This doesn’t mean they can never go home. When they are sent home we ask that the iPad is checked out to the student in Destiny and that this checkout form has been signed by their parent/guardian.
Below is a quick video showing you how easy it is to sign into Common Sense Media and how to access their activities. Their material is fantastic and will offer opportunities for rich discussions.
Bend-La Pine Schools requires students to use multi-factor authentication (MFA) when accessing a BLS provided service from a personal device (not a BLS issued iPad). This is for the safety of our students and their data. A few things to know:
MFA is NOT required for students using a Bend-La Pine Schools iPad or computer.
Setting up MFA requires use of a personal phone number to receive a phone call or a text message. This phone number can belong to the student or parent, or it can be a home line.
Students and families can use this set-up guide to get going.
Must be set up prior to accessing the resource.
