On February 9th all 8th grade students went to the MPR to get their gown measurements for the end of the year. First, students walked in and put in their full name and school on a paper. Then, students got called up by table and got their height measured on stage. The students could’ve either paid $16 for the gown itself or an additional $5 for an added tassel which is $21 total. Students could’ve either paid then and there, or they could instead make arrangements with the office on when they can pay for their gown or gown and tassel.
Students were very excited about this because MANY are looking forward to finally finishing middle school and taking the next big step in their lives to high school. Some students thought it was exciting because, “it shows we’re getting closer to high school" or in contrast “It's scary because I’m nervous for high school.” This shows the mixed reactions different students have on getting their measurements.
Overall, students are either very excited or nervous to get their measurements because they’re going to high school next. Students will be wearing their gowns at the end of the year at the promotion ceremony. How are you feeling about these gown measurements?

We have brought back our weekly intermural sports again this year! We have started off with volleyball. Teams of 6 students get to compete twice a week. The games take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at lunch in the gym.
These games are a really fun way for students to come together, get some exercise and show their school spirit by rooting on the players.

On Friday, September 8 we had a back to school rally. It was very enjoyable. We had games and it was very fun.
Here is what some students have to say about it. First, I interviewed an 8th grader, Stephanie Avalos. She said she thinks our first rally is amazing because she gets to see fun things happen. Then Santos Penaloza said his favorite part was being able to see his friends play and see them having fun and them having fun. Next Joshua Martinez He said he liked participating in the games because it was very fun and he enjoyed hearing people cheer for him. Then I interviewed a 7th grader. Her name is Yajy, and I asked her how she liked her fist rally. She said, “it was extremely fire and she really enjoyed it”. Then I interviewed some students on student council. The first is Izabella Larios. I asked if she enjoyed setting up for the rally. She said she really liked it because it was really fun and she got to be with her friends. I asked if she liked planning for it. She said she liked it because it was fun and they got to be creative. Next I interviewed Pablo Falcon. He enjoyed setting up because he liked being behind the scenes. He said he likes planning because it's fun and cool but it can be stressful sometimes. That's all that happened at our rally it was really fun.
There were a lot of games for the students to play, such as Musical Chairs, Balloon Keep Up, and Trivia. We look forward to more rallys like this in the future!

Yee-haw Spartans! Wilson’s western dance was an amazingly, fun event at Wilson middle school,
On Friday September 8th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM studenst attended our first dance of the school year. It was a western theme with a costume contest! The student who had the best western outfit won. We had three winners: Grace Williams. Kenya Villagomez, and Isidro Chavez. Their pictures are on the home page of the Wilson Weekly.
Students who went to the dance had to pay $5.00 each for a ticket. To enter the dance students had to bring their tickets and school ID’s. Everything in the snack bar was under $5.00, there was a photo booth stand, snacks, music, and games. People were dancing and lip syncing and having fun!
The student council did a really good job decorating and getting ready for this awesome dance. There were hay bales as well as a barnyard background for photo ops. It was an incredible night at the dance!

On September 1st, there was a speaker, named Kevin Bracey, who came to our school to speak about his initiative called “Greatness talk.” This was held in our gym as it was a whole school assembly.
The biggest thing that Kevin Bracey meant was no matter what, never give up on your dreams. You should always follow your dreams until you achieve them. There is nothing you can't learn or do, always shoot towards your dreams and never give up. There will always be people around you that will support you when you need support. Even at your lowest never forget your dreams, always work hard to achieve your goals and keep on trying until you achieve them. Build yourself up with words to reach your greatness the way you talk about you and others is greatness talk if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger.
Another thing they were talking about at the assembly was whether your mind thinks negative, your words should come out positive instead of negative. He talked about how you need to think before you post on social media and think about it before doing it.
Kevin also shared that you should also always spread kindness because you never know what someones going through and you never know if that kindness you spread makes someone's day better or even life better. Never tear yourself or others down; always be positive towards other people and towards yourself.
The staff and students were really involved in the assembly. Kevin created chants for the students to shout to always remind them of the greatness that they have and how to always think about the positives in life, especially when times are tough. One way that Kevin really got the students invested in his message was by sharing his real life experiences with the students. Because he was vulnerable with them, the students were able to connect with him on a personal level. This ensured that many of the students really took to heart the messages that Kevin shared with them.
All in all it was an amazing experience for all of the students and staff. We look forward to keeping up the greatness talk all year long!

The Wilson Middle School Back to School Night was a blast! It was held on Thursday, August 24th, 2023! Office staff, teachers, students and parents all welcomed each other and joined us as our parents met our teachers.
We started the ‘day’ off by taking our parents to our first classes, and so forth. Teachers told our parents a lot, varying from grades, to expectations, to school goals! We had ten minutes each class, and three to hustle our parents and friends all across school! Wilsons teachers had an absolute blast getting to know everyone's parents and answering their questions.
Mr. White and Mrs. Henley was overjoyed to meet all students and parents formally!
Thank you everyone for joining us on the first week of school. Let's have an amazing year!
