Soccer is a very hard sport especially for people who are just starting. Soccer is a much more technically challenging sport. Being able to dribble, pass, shoot and control the ball with your feet all while maintaining speed and field awareness is incredibly difficult. Coach John Faulkner said he hoped his players do their best and improve every single day.
The Coaches of the Wilson Middle school soccer team say the girls soccer team really only needs to work on teamwork and communication. They also hope for the best with their soccer team. They wish everybody who tried out this year can try out next year and to never give up on this spor. No matter how difficult is gets, and to also work on their skills at home so next year when they return they will be better than ever.
The team has had two games thus far. Their first game was a pre-season scrimage against the Madera Ranchos. Unfortunately, the girls did not win on the score board, but they played a great game and had some wonderful learning experiences. They also had their first game of the season, against Coalinga. This game was so close. The girls played their hearts out and tied 2-2. We are looking forward to seeing them play this season! Go Spartans!

Wrestling is a sport all about having resilience and grit. Coach W says in wrestling you have to gain knowledge of the sport and learn how to wrestle. Wrestling is considered on of the most physically demanding sports and, as such, has a proportionate number of injuries. Strength and endurance is the mountain to a successful performance.
Coach W also says he hopes his wrestlers will achieve this goal by have practice and a good reputation with the sport. He has also said he loves seeing the look on their faces when they do good. Coach W would love to have them again next year and to see them improve.
The wrestling team has had two matches so far this season. They had their first match on Tuesday, a scrimage against the Madera Ranchos. Overall, the students had a great time getting to take all they have learned from practice and put it on the mat. The Madera Ranchos have a good team as well, so this was a great way for our Spartans to get some real practice in before the season officially started. Their second match of the season, was their first league match, and it was against Coalinga. We are looking forward to seeing these gals and guys take it to the mat. Good luck this season! Go Spartans!

This week our 8th grade boys went to the playoffs in Mendota. It was a close game with Mendota, sadly, winning by only 3 points. Even though our boys did not move on to chamiopships, they still played an amazing game and showed a lot of growth. Their first time playing Mendota, they lost by significantly more points. This time around they were able to push harder and score more baskets. They played amazing this season, as did all of our teams!
Our basketball season is coming to a close this week. All of our teams worked incredibly hard this season. They faced both wins and losses on the court. Stay tuned for an article telling us a little more about this years basketball season!
Our 8th grade boys will be in the playoffs next week! The location of the game will be determined after this weeks game. Be on the look out in the daily bulletin to find out more. If the games are at home, be sure to stay and root them on! Good luck Spartans!
Boys will be away on Tuesday vs. Mendota. Work hard, and play hard!
Our basketball season is fully underway! All four of our teams have been working hard each week. They have had 6 games so far. We are very excited to see how the season progresses. All four teams have had some really great games, and shown some great teamwork. They may not always leave the game with a W on the score board, but they are continuing to learn and grow as players.
Good luck Spartans!
A sport that is happening right now is Cross Country and I had the chance to interview the coach and some players.
So first, the coach, Paulina. She said her goal is to not have one kid walking during a meet. She decided to coach this season because she did it last year and enjoyed doing it. Also because she did it as a kid and wanted to give it more exposure.
Then I interviewed Gleni Amador. What she wants to happen this season is to get a banner and win. She joined cross country to be more social and faster. Then interviewed Jocelyn Rivas. She says being an athlete inspires her to do well, get good grades and be a good role model to other students because she is an athlete. Jocelyn says she will join cross country in high school because she loves to run. Next Victor Reyes. He says his goal for the season is to get faster and be better at running. ]
The cross country had a great season overall. Many runners placed within the top 10 at their races and they finished their season on Wednesday, November 1st at Kearney Park. Great job this season runners!

On Wednesday, our cross country team raced at home. It was a great meet with multiple athletes placing in the top 10. They have a meet today, Friday 10/20. Good luck, Spartans!
Our basketball season has officially begun. We have both 7th and 8th grade teams for boys and girls. Our first games of the season will take place on Tuesday, Oct 31. Boys will be at home and girls will travel to Los Banos to play Creekside. Rosters and schedule to come. Stay Tuned!
On Wednesday, our cross country team travelled to Firebaugh. Overall they had a great race, with 3 girls placing in the top 3: 6th grader, Yasmin Gonzales, 8th grader, Jocelyn Rivas, and 8th grader, Elizabeth Gomez. Ozzy Silveria placed 4th for the boys race! Great job Spartans. We are looking forward to our one and only home race next Wednesday!
8th grade volleyball travelled to Sierra for playoffs on Tuesday. Unfortunately, they did not win and were eliminated. However, they had an amazing season and we are looking forward to hearing all of the great things about these athletes next year when they play for our high school team. Great season ladies. You worked incredibly hard, and it showed!
We spoke with the 7th grade volleyball coach: Coach Hornbeak, and here are some of the things she had said:
What motivates you to teach your student volleyball? She shared, “I played lots of sports over the years and I know they need someone to look up to and to push and motivate them.” She had played many sports when she was younger and she had a good remodel and want her girls to know that she will be there for them. She also wants push them so they can see there growth they have made over the years.
She has been in the district for about 19 years, and she has always loved Chowchilla and to work here because of the students. They get her, and as well as her humor, and she like the mind set of the other teachers. She also enjoyed the coaching stuff with this year was “getting the girls to all play and all get a chance to play. its very hard to get them all in one game.”
One thing she wants her girls to know is to keep growing and to show improvement. She wants them to always work together in a team rather than alone. We asked her how she would describe her team and she said "[they are] very much here to win and hard working. They show up to play and they don't give up and they show equal team work." The reason she started to coach volleyball was because she likes teaching the youth and she wants some one the girls can look up to and she hopes it her that they look up to her.
One of the coaches favorite memories is when they won against Los Banos and when they had got their comeback because they showeld they can put their hard work in and to always try their best.

The 2023 boys soccer season has come to an end. They started off a little rocky, but were able to come together as the season progressed. They ended on a positive note with a win and a tie for the their last two games.
Coach Falkner is once again our soccer coach. He has been coaching for 47 years. He also works part time here at Wilson in our cafeteria. He loves soccer and has been playing since he was 15 years old. Every season Coach Faulkner, along with his assistant coaches, work very hard to ensure that the players try their best and work hard both on and off the field.
I interviewed one of the goalies, Andres Bustillos. He says that this season he wanted them to win the championship. He says he is going to play soccer in high school because he enjoys the sport and has always played soccer.
Sadly they did not make it to the playoffs. But they had a good season.

They won. 7th grade volleyball won their first set, but sadly fell short to Dos Palos in sets 2 and 3. 8th grade volleyball had a spectacular opening and won all of thier sets against Dos Palos.
