What can this chrome extension do when added to your browser?
Read Aloud is a Chrome and Firefox extension that uses text-to-speech technology to convert webpage text to audio. It works on a variety of websites, including news sites, blogs, fan fiction, publications, textbooks, school and class websites, online universities and course materials.
Read Aloud is aimed at users who prefer to listen to content instead of reading, people with dyslexia or other learning disabilities, children learning to read, or simply to provide users with alternative way to consume web content.
When you present slides, you can turn on automatic captions to display the speaker's words in real time.
This feature is available on Chrome devices in U.S. English.
Connect to the Internet.
Open your presentation in Google Slides.
To start presenting, click Present
To turn on captions, click CC
As you speak, captions appear at the bottom of the screen. Captions don't include punctuation.
To change text position or size, next to “CC” click the drop-down menu .
To turn off captions, click CC
*Some people find captions distracting, so you might want to ask your audience before turning on captions.
*Captions are not stored
If you present slides over video conferencing software (such as Google Meet), captions show up on the shared screen. To set expectations for your audience, it's a good idea to tell them that captions are from Google Slides, not the video conferencing software, and that only the speaker's voice is captioned.
Captions and your microphone automatically turn off if there's no activity on your computer for 30 minutes.
