What we do:
The Learning and Access Team support ākonga across their journey in tertiary education by providing academic guidance, advocacy and accessibility support. We deliver targeted academic skill development through workshops, group sessions and individual support to enable confident, lifelong learning.
Working in partnership with ākonga, we identify and arrange appropriate support provisions to ensure equitable access to learning. Through a collaborative, strengths-based approach fostering kotahitanga, we connect ākonga with wider support services, enabling them to achieve and transition successfully into future pathways. Our facilitators uplift inclusion, celebrate diversity and strengthen community connections.
What to expect when accessing us:
During your initial contact with the Learning and Access Team, you will be invited to share your lived experience:
discuss with your Learning and Access Facilitator what strategies work for you and how we can support you
If required provide documentation verifying the nature and impacts of your needs
register with Learning and Access by completing the accessibility application form and returning via email to accessibility@toiohomai.ac.nz
we can organise note taker support, arrange supports for exams such as reader/writer provision, additional time and separate spaces.
can refer to our wider Ākonga Support Team to allow for a holistic experience where you are empowered in tertiary education.
Note* It is suggested that you connect early to ensure your supports are in place for when you begin your programme of study.
