INTERNSHIPS
Include an optional internship during your semester in Strasbourg!
Community internships:
Generally registered under IPA 470 for 1-credit (requires one half-day per week at the placement.
Intern at the Council of Europe:
Registered as a class, PSC 471 includes a final interview once abroad. If offered the internship, you will be registered during the schedule adjustment period early in the semester (you will not be able to register for PSC 471 during online registration).
To Apply:
Complete the Internship Request Form found in your Syracuse Abroad application list in the OrangeAbroad portal.
If applying for an internship at the Council of Europe, follow the additional instructions provided!
If you've applied for a community internship, you will work with the Strasbourg Internship Coordinator to find the placement that best suits your interests and qualifications. Make sure to monitor your syr.edu email!
Once in Strasbourg,
Students accepted to participate in the Council of Europe internship will be registered.
Students successfully placed in a Community internship, will complete and submit an Internship Proposal which must be reviewed and approved by an academic department at Syracuse University. Matriculated SU students also need the approval of their home school or college. Once processed, students will be registered accordingly.
All students should be advised to consult with their home school/college before undertaking an internship since there may be specific rules, requirements, and/or restrictions with regard to internship credit.
Internship credits do count toward the 12-credit minimum required to study abroad.
Community Internship FAQs:
Generally registered under a general subject prefix of IPA (International Internship Abroad), carry one credit, and require one half-day per week at the placement for a minimum total of 45 hours of work per credit.
Internships may be available for 1, 2 or 3 credits.
Placements at specific businesses or organizations cannot be guaranteed.
Placements may require a certain level of French proficiency.
Placements are not confirmed until you complete the on-site interview process.
How the internship appears on your transcript depends on your learning objectives, the content and focus of work assignments, and the background of your faculty sponsor as proposed and approved in the Internship Proposal-Agreement form that is completed abroad.
