STEP TWO:
GET READY

BEFORE YOU REGISTER you will need to do a number of things to prepare. Start with these NOW:
CONFIRM your intended schedule using the following materials:
Your completed Course Preference Form (in your email)
Updated Schedule of Classes and Course Timetable
DO NOT SELECT COURSES THAT MEET AT THE SAME TIME.
MySlice will not allow you to register for two courses that meet at the same time. You will receive an error message!
CHECK PREREQUISITES in course descriptions
Some courses are restricted to students who have had prior course experience. Be sure you have met any prerequisites for a course you plan to take.
If you do not meet a prerequisite, you should not register for the course during online registration (enrollment priority goes to students who meet the prerequisite). Syracuse Abroad reserves the right to drop a student from any course for which they are deemed ineligible based on the transcript information available to us.
If the system blocks you from a course during online registration for not meeting a prerequisite and you believe you have the necessary background, email cjenn101@syr.edu with supporting information and documentation demonstrating how you are eligible for this course.
Enroll in an alternative class during online registration if needed to meet the 12 credit minimum.
Following review and if there are open seats in the course, students without the prerequisite may be allowed to enroll with permission from Syracuse Abroad.

KNOW your NetID and log-in password prior to your registration appointment
You will need these to access MySlice for course registration.
You’ll need your SUID number to activate your NetID (your NetID is the series of characters before @syr.edu in your SU email).
Visiting Students: You can find your SUID number in OrangeAbroad.
If you have not used MySlice before, not yet activated your account, or have forgotten your password, you can set up a new account or reset your password at the IT Services website. If you still need to do this... do it NOW!
VERIFY your contact information in MySlice prior to your registration appointment
Log into MySlice. Periodically the system will require you to verify your contact information. Update any contact information that may have changed.
Once you select any of the links in Student Services you will automatically be forwarded to any items that must be reviewed.
You may also have to acknowledge that you have read a summary of SU’s Academic Integrity expectations.
CHECK for holds that would prevent you from registering
Log into MySlice using your NetID and password.
Go to "Student Home" > Enrollment > Holds to see if any holds are on your account.
If you DO have a hold, click on the hold for details of which office to contact to resolve the hold. Our office is NOT able to lift a hold!
FIND your individual Registration Appointment
Go to OrangeAbroad and look under Registration Appointment & Instructions to find your registration start date and time.
Or go to MySlice > Enrollment tile. Under Enrollment Dates, see appointments for Flex Long Class
REQUEST an increased credit load
During online registration, MySlice will not allow you to register for more than 17 credits of courses, unless you emailed to say that you plan to register for up to 19 credits. If you attempt to register over 17, you will receive the error message “Maximum term student unit load exceeded.”
If you need to register for more than 17 credits, email cjenn101@syr.edu (PRIOR to the start of online registration)!
FIND your French course(s)
Matriculated Syracuse University students:
If you have not yet determined your level of French, learn how to Determine your French level now.
The system will let you register for the next course you are eligible to take if you've taken classes at SU.
If you have taken the placement exam (but not a following French class at SU), you may only register for the class that the placement exam placed you in.
Visiting students:
Seek the advice of your home institution as to the class level that you should register for. It may be helpful to share SU FRE syllabi with your home institution’s language department.
Understand cross-listed courses
A number of courses have cross-listings or meet together (the one class can be registered under more than one course prefix, such as FRE447/HST447 which is the same class taught in French). To prevent you from getting closed out of such a course under one prefix/number while seats under the other listing is still open, we have provided you with the same 5-digit number for registering online. These are listed in grey on the Schedule of Classes.
This means that you may want to take Europe, Russia, and the Eastern Borderlands for political science (PSC) credits, but you will see it on your schedule in MySlice listed as HST 415. Don’t worry! Once you get to Strasbourg, you will have an opportunity to correct your registration so that it reflects the course prefix or number you need.
PLAN your optional Internship
There are multiple internship opportunities available during your semester abroad. Internship placements are not guaranteed and cannot be confirmed until after you arrive in Strasbourg.
In the meantime, be certain:
you have completed Internship Request Form(s) found in your OrangeAbroad portal and provided all requested materials.
you register for an alternative course during online registration if you must fulfill a certain number of total credits to stay on track for graduation or to meet the 12 credit minimum requirement.
REVIEW Instructions for Local University programs
Students attending a special program while in Strasbourg should review these instructions for planning online registration!
