STEP THREE
Plan Your Schedule
Plan Your Schedule
REVIEW the provisional Santiago Class Timetable.
Note that you need special permission from Syracuse Abroad to take any course not found on the timetable.
CHOOSE the appropriate Spanish class.
If you are a matriculated Syracuse University student without SPA credits on your transcript, you'll need to take the Spanish placement survey/exam before submitting your Course Preference Form (CPF).
SELECT your first-choice classes and some alternatives.
Review course descriptions.
Take note of any class changes or cancelations listed in Step TWO: Review Course Information.
Some courses are cross-listed — that is, they appear under more than one prefix on the schedule (but under only one title). This reflects a single course with various enrollment options. Don’t select the same course more than once under different prefixes!
Include several alternative course selections in your plan. This will facilitate your registration in the event of a schedule conflict, course cancellation, or closed class.
COUNT your total credits.
If you are an undergraduate, check that your course plan totals 12–16 credits. If you plan to register for more than 16 credits, you should email the Santiago Academic Team in advance for permission.
NOTE: You may not take more than 19 total credits without approval from your home college. (Visiting students seek approval from Syracuse Abroad.) Registration over 19 credits is subject to additional per-credit tuition charges. Students participating in the Renée Crown Honors Program who wish to take more than 19 credits may request that additional tuition charges be waived.
CONSULT with your academic advisor(s) or home institution.
Highly recommended! It is your responsibility to know your degree requirements and ensure your course plan will keep you on track for graduation.
Seek guidance from your advisor(s) or home institution as needed or required prior to the CPF submission deadline.
Discuss how a course may count toward your degree progress.
Request syllabi if needed for your home institution to approve a course for transfer credit.
Check that none of your selected courses repeat prior study (even if the course is taught in another language). If you have any questions about whether a course covers the same or similar material to one already on your transcript, have your home institution, school or college review the syllabus for the course offered abroad.
After narrowing down your course preferences,
