Special Info for Visiting Students

Where is my SUID number? 

• Your 9-digit SUID should appear in the Profile section of your OrangeAbroad portal. You'll need this number when completing your Course Preference Form. You'll also need it to activate your NetID so that your Syracuse login and email account are functional. 

How do visiting students activate their Net IDs and *@syr.edu email address?

• Follow the instructions at the NetID Self-Serv portal. Please get used to using your SU email address soon. This is how Santiago staff and faculty will contact you. 

• Activation of your NetID takes at least 24 hours, so please don't delay. Staff and faculty in Santiago are required to communicate with you via your SU email and will start emailing you before the semester begins. 

The instructions say to seek advising after I submit my Course Preference Form (CPF). Do you mean an advisor at my home school? Or someone at Syracuse University?

• We're referring to an academic advisor at your home college or university who is familiar with the requirements of your degree program. (You may consult with more than one advisor, if different people advise you about your major and minor or dual degrees, for instance.) When you submit your CPF, you will be emailed a copy of your pre-selections to share with your advisor(s). 

I already completed a study abroad approval form for my home school. Why should I also complete the CPF? 

• We require all students to complete the CPF to enable our office to register you based on your course preferences and to help our Santiago colleagues plan for the coming semester. But we're aware that many of our partner institutions have study abroad course approval forms that may duplicate some or all information on Syracuse's CPF. 

How will I receive my transcript for this semester?

• REMEMBER: Grades for Chilean university courses may not post until mid-June for spring semesters. You are responsible for ensuring that this timing will not adversely affect you academically or in terms of financial aid awarding.  

• Your home school needs an official transcript from Syracuse University in order to award credit for your semester on our program. When your transcript is ready, you'll receive an email from our office with instructions on requesting your Syracuse transcript (and instructions are always available here). 

• Transcripts are not issued automatically. Submit a request to the Syracuse University Registrar’s office once you have confirmed that your grades are posted and you have no financial holds. 

• IMPORTANT! Syracuse Abroad provides one transcript at no charge for all visiting students. Your free transcript is redeemable for one year from the end of your program. (E-transcripts are delivered free of charge. All mailed transcripts are subject to a mailing fee.)
