"I chose Geology because of its links with Geography, which I was also choosing. The subjects fit well together and are appropriate for my interests in both the human and physical aspects of the environment. Geology also seemed an interesting topic for it was a completely new topic for me and not much prior knowledge is needed to understand the work. The fossils has been my favourite topic so far, as it's a very interactive topic, as are all the topics".

"Geology has been without a doubt my most enjoyable subject during college. The course is very interesting and engaging, however a relaxed atmosphere doesn't make any lesson too difficult. The subject is also made much more interesting by the enthusiastic teaching by Ed; helping every lesson be a joy to attend".

"I chose Geology originally as I really enjoyed the physical side of GCSE Geography. After spending two years studying the subject, I can say that taking it was a great decision. Geology allows you to understand a vast range of topics, and really changes the way you look at the world. My favourite areas of Geology were the study of fossils, and how they show us how life has developed and evolved on Earth over time, and also plate tectonics, and how the Earth has been through many different land formations leading up to the current one. I am now hoping to go to university to study Earth Science, and hopefully end up with a great job at the end of it".

Climbing rock can be as much fun as learning about it.
Learning about the avalanche disaster that devastated the village of Montroc, France . The snow covered grassy area behind has been left undeveloped following the destruction of several chalets in February 1999. The avalanche, which is one of several hazardous processes that pose a danger to people in alpine environments killed 12 people.
"I first picked Geology because I thought it might be very interesting and I really enjoyed taster lessons on earthquake and minerals. I think my favourite subjects in geology are rock deformation, sedimentary rocks and fossils. There are some aspects of geology that fit in with my maths and physics and it's nice to be able to learn content in one of my classes and then to come across it in another. For example, we learned about stress strain graphs in Geology and then we also taught it in physics a couple of weeks later so I furthered my understanding of them. I've been wanting to do engineering for as far back as i can remember and I specifically wanted to do electronics since I first started it back in year 7. However, I have found a love for Geology and I by far get the best grades in it and it's the most fun and favourite subject I do. I'm now starting to lean more towards doing Geology at university but I'm still not 100% sure. I really do enjoy Geology and I definitely will not regret taking it".

There are amazing opportunities when studying Geology with some really good field study trips. The trip to the Alps is an absolute must and the glacier trek is a fantastic experience. Beware accuracy in practicals can be frustrating but is a must. Ed is a great teacher, he’s inspired me. I plan to study Geology at Leeds University.

I chose geology at a level because I enjoyed the physical aspects of geography at GCSE, and the subject interested me. Geology A level is very interesting, you learn lots of new things about the planet and what’s going on beneath us. My favourite topic is fossils as I enjoy being studying the different species of life that came before us. The work being set is both challenging and engaging, and one definite advantage is the excellent field trips. I would 100% recommend taking geology as an A level subject.
