communicate and present complex information to staff and peers using appropriate qualitative and quantitative techniques and packages
solve numerical problems using computer and non-computer based techniques
plan and undertaken activities with consideration of health and safety
QE geology students working with staff from the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to produce geoanimation films on the geology of the Upper Tees Valley. The completed films are regularly shown at the Bowlees Visitors Centre and are hosted on the North Pennines AONB website and Youtube.

In order to pursue a career in geology learners will need to study geology at university. With an undergraduate degree in geology or a related subject there are many careers available in fields including environmental geology and geoscience, pollution control, glacial geology, geological surveying, water supplies, engineering geology, ground investigation, geochemistry, volcanology, field seismology and geotechnical engineering. It is common for geologists to undertake further study or independent research. Potential employers include environmental agencies and consultancies; oil, gas, petroleum, groundwater, civil engineering and construction companies; nuclear research bodies and commissions; waste management agencies; government organisations and museums. Most geologist jobs involve a combination of fieldwork, laboratory and office work, and career growth perspectives often involve some management responsibilities. If you decide to change career path, the skills that you learn in your degree will still be useful. For instance, communication skills, project management, quantitative reasoning and digital skills will allow you to move into many other areas such as research, civil engineering, laboratory work, finance, government consultancies and journalism.
