Project Nalanda is a YEP Project organised by NIE students with the help of HELP Tourism. For this project, we were headed to Arunachal Pradesh in India, and our target community is the Chakma Community.
The Chakma Community consists of approximately 600 people. These people are displaced from Bangladesh due to construction projects and are currently stateless. For our project, our focus is at Namdapha Nalanda Nature School (NNNH), where we will spend 10 teaching days with the Chakma students aged 6-13.
This trip took place from 3rd Decemeber 2019 to 21st December 2019. Throughout the trip, we were disconnected with the world as M'Pen Village (where NNNH is located at), is a mobile dead zone. Besides teaching, we had the opportunities to play with the children after class and visit their houses.
Class 2 was the class that I was assigned to for this project. While students of this class are supposedly equivalent to Primary 2 students in Singapore, their class have students from age 8 to 10 as some students retained.
Throughout our 10 teaching days, we taught the students on topics like Manners, Punctuality, Nature, Wildlife Animals, Preservation of Nature, Environment (Global Warming/Recycling) and Different Cultures worldwide. On the last teaching day, we had a mass sports days for the students.
