This module was undertaken in Year 2 Semester 1, where we learnt about the pedagogical theory and knowledge to deal with the teaching of the form and meaning of the Chinese language in the local classroom context. We touched on areas including the relationship between behaviourist and cognitivist theories and the teaching of Chinese language, the teaching of Hanyu Pinyin, the teaching of Chinese characters, the teaching of vocabulary, the teaching of sentence construction and the teaching of genre and text analysis. Specifically, we analysed the passages in the Chinese textbooks, identified the learning difficulties in these and derived plans to teach these content in class with greater clarity.
This module was undertaken in Year 2 Semester 1, where we learnt about the key stages and and activities involved in developing, managing and evaluating a Chinese Language Programme. From this, we delved deeper into Singapore's Chinese syllabus and saw how the curriculum changed over the years. Other than the Singapore Chinese Curriculum, we also looked at textbooks from different countries to evaluate their effectiveness and learn from them.
This module was undertaken in Year 2 Semester 1, where we learnt about the Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) Curriculum in Singapore. We explored the importance of CCE in relation to the Framework for 21st Century Competencies and Student Outcomes. From this module, I understood more about the CCE curriculum and learnt about the different pedagogies pertaining to the execution of CCE lessons. This opened my eyes to the possibilities of CCE lessons and ignited my interests in the subject.

This module was undertaken in Year 3 Semester 2, where we explored the different types of lessons in a typical Chinese Language Programme. This module was undertaken in Year 3 Semester 2, where we learnt about incorporating Children's Literature into the CCE curriculum. For this module, we learnt the methods to engage students while reading picture books, and had the opportunity to incorporate picture books into our CCE lessons. This is extremely important as we are able to make use of picture books to expand on more abstract ideas or concepts in the textbook. Picture books are also good sources to introduce values to students as they tend to be more receptive to these. Other than picture books, we also made use of other sources of Children's Literature, such as poems, fables, fairy tales, legends etc. In today's context, these resources are even more readily available especially with the sprout of many kids channels on Youtube.
This module was undertaken in Year 4 Semester 1, where we learnt about Chinese Language testing and assessment theories. We also learnt about designing, developing and administering language tests, which is extremely important for our career in the future as assessment is a critical part of teaching. Appropriate assessment methods are important to assess on students' learning, and more importantly, our own teaching. In this module, we were also given the opportunity to set a papers and to vet our classmate's papers, just like we would in schools. We also covered the assessment for Listening Comprehension, Oral and Composition Writing in this module.
