HOSA mission

HOSA is an international student organization whose two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.

HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!

Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily reaching over 245,000 members through 54 chartered HOSA Associations, American Samoa, Canada, District of Columbia, Germany, Italy, and Puerto Rico.

HOSA is not a club to which a few students in school join. Rather, HOSA is a powerful instructional tool that is integrated into the health science related curriculum and classroom.

HOSA's mission is especially critical when considering the acute shortage of qualified workers for the health care industry.

Hosa activities

Students are involved in HOSA activities both in the classroom and in our after school HOSA Competition Team. All students are part of HOSA but only around 40 work hard to be ready for the HOSA State Leadership Conference in March where student demonstrate what they have learned by participating in a competitive event, network with other like-minded students and attend relevant workshops.

Competitive Events

Students compete in one of more than 30 competitive events at the State Leadership Conference in the spring. Click here to explore your options! In order to participate in HOSA students must be members of the Health Academy in grades 9-12 or be in a Patient Care Pathway class or an Emergency Services class.

Meetings are held one day after school for students to prepare for their event. Students may choose an event they do alone or one that is a group effort. We will hold meetings on Zoom this year with the first meeting being Tuesday August 18 at 3:10.

Large Conferences

The Regional Leadership Conference (RLC)- The Student Leadership Team attends this fall conference to learn more about leadership and current medical concerns. It is usually within a one hour bus ride of school and is a one day event on a Saturday. In our region about 300 students attend from the Inland Empire and San Diego.

The State Leadership Conference SLC)- All students who have prepared for a competitive event are eligible to attend. This is a 4-5 day conference which is either in Sacramento or somewhere in Southern California. Students stay in a hotel and are under strict rules of behavior. They have the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops, compete in their event and network with other students from all over the state. This is a wonderful experience for students that has  no equal. The last conference had over 3,000 students and advisors in attendance.

The International Leadership Conference (ILC)- Students who placed first through third at the State Leadership Conference are eligible to attend. In cases where those students are unable to attend, the fourth and possibly fifth place students or teams may be invited to go. This conference is held in different locations in the U.S. Most frequently it is at Disney world in Florida. Over 11,000 students attend this conference to compete in their event, attend workshops, network with students from around the world and experience a fun day in the conference area. This conference is in June and lasts from a Tuesday to the following Sunday.

** This year, all conferences are expected to be virtual.
