Health Academy Director

Cindi Dolan  cdolan@mvusd.net

I created the Health Academy program in 2007 to serve those students interested in pursuing a healthcare career. I have experience in Surgical Pathology and have a teaching credentials in Biological Science, Physical Science and Health Science and Medical Technology.  I teach the Introduction to Health Careers, Body Systems and Disease and Advanced Concepts for the Medical Professional courses.

I am originally from Ohio and moved to California in 1985. I have been teaching since 1988 and am one of the original Vista del Lago teachers. I love teaching and find it very rewarding to work with young people and help them find their way to a successful future.  I have two grown children who are both engineers and live with my husband and very whiny cat. I love to travel, read and sew.

Science

I started teaching in 2000 at the University of Puerto Rico, where I was a chemistry lab instructor. Then, I switched my main job to do scientific research, even though I was still an educator in various capacities. I have worked in research for space travel, my doctoral dissertation was about the biochemistry of endometrial and breast cancer, and when I was a postdoctoral fellow I worked to understand how proteins fold in diseases of the brain. I have two elementary school age children and I have been teaching chemistry and biology at Vista del Lago since 2018. Click on my website to learn more.

Hi everyone!  Please click on my name above to go to my Google Site.  I am originally from Indiana, land of corn, the Indy 500 and basketball.   I went to Butler University (Indianapolis) where I received a B.A. in Modern History.  I moved to California in 1996 and earned my M.A. in Modern European History from UCR.  I live in Riverside with my husband, our daughter, our Golden Retriever and our cat.  We love traveling (pre-Covid!), gardening, and new adventures.  This is my 22nd year of teaching and my 13th year at Vista.  I love what I do and I love our community!  Go Ravens!

Like most of you, I grew up in Moreno Valley. I graduated from Canyon Springs high School. Go Cougars. After high school, I enrolled at RCC/UC in the bridge engineering program. As we all know life happens (three years in a BS), I changed my major and transferred to Cal State University at San Bernardino. I graduated from CSUSB with a B.A in Political Science and a Minor in Pre-Law. I also completed quite a few different concentrations. I also have a M.A in Educational Technology with an emphasis on research. I started teaching in San Bernardino at a middle school then ended up at Valley View for a semester and finally my home here at Vista del Lago. I have been here for over 16 years!

Welcome to the Vista Del Lago High School Health Academy! I teach the courses that are part of the Emergency Response Pathway: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Public Safety Personnel/First Aid-CPR (PSP/FA-CPR).  I am a retired Paramedic with eighteen years of service in Riverside County and thirty years in Emergency Medical Services.  I have been teaching EMTs, at the college level, since 1991, and Paramedics since 1994.  I began my high school teaching career in August of 2007-present.  I have been assigned to Vista Del Lago HS since 2015.  It is my desire that all my students gain a greater knowledge in caring for the critically ill and injured and preparing them for any emergency.
