Health Academy Contract
In order to maintain high standards and prepare your student for their future in Health Care we are requiring students and parents to agree to the following contract. Your student has been accepted to the Health Academy for next year. You are being asked to sign the contract this year so you know what our expectations are for the future.
Students are required to earn at least a 2.0 GPA. Parents are asked to check Q so you are aware of your student’s grades. If any grade is below a “C” the student will be recommended to attend tutoring until the grade is raised. In order for student grades to stay acceptable we need parental support. In this way we hope to keep all students on a college track, increase their test scores and rate of passing college readiness exams.
Students not earning a 2.0 at the quarter or semester grade reporting period will be put on Academy probation and will be required to attend tutoring for any subjects they were deficient in for the next quarter. If grades are not up to a 2.0 GPA two semesters in a row, the student may be removed from the Health Academy. Students with less than a 2.0 GPA for the first time at the end of second semester will be placed on Academy probation for the first semester of the next school year. The goal is that all students will have a 2.0 or better every semester
Academy students are also expected to have professional work habits. Missing too many work days would result in a health care worker being fired, so the Health Academy Staff believe that our students should have attendance requirements. If students are going to be absent, it is their responsibility to inform the Academy Director, Mrs. Dolan through the use of Remind.com or email. This is similar to what will be required when they begin working in the Health Care Field. If the student’s absences cause their grades to be drop, they will be placed on Academy probation with an attendance requirement. Students also should arrive on time to all of their classes including first period. It is important to emphasize being on time. Students with too many absences or tardies generally have lower grades. Because of distance learning this should not be an issue. Please inform Mrs. Dolan if you are too ill to be on the computer or if you are traveling to a location without internet. Otherwise, your teachers expect to make contact with you every day.
Students are required to go to credit recovery or summer school to make up any F’s in order to be able to take all required Health Academy classes. D grades should also be made up in credit recovery or summer school so that students meet the A-G required grades for college.
Academic Integrity: Students will also be held accountable for understanding the nature of plagiarism and at the conclusion of the plagiarism awareness unit in English class, will understand that plagiarizing is grounds for dismissal from the academy. Cheating is never acceptable and can result in dismissal from the Academy. Claiming someone else's work as your own is considered cheating.
Juniors and seniors in the Health Academy will be given the opportunity to volunteer and intern in local hospitals and medical offices. As these are professional environments, ALL students in the Health Academy will be required to have a professional appearance. In the healthcare industry most employers place prohibitions on visible tattoos, body piercings, low-cut and revealing clothing, excessive jewelry, extreme hairstyles and hair colors which are not natural. For ease in volunteering and in working later, Health Academy students may not have more than one unnatural hair color and no more that two colors total, extreme hairstyles, for visible tattoos. The school dress code is also strictly enforced. Failure to follow this rule will be result in a loss of professionalism points. For distance learning, the hair color restriction is being lifted. Once we are in the classroom, natural hair colors are required.
No bullying or name calling is ever appropriate in the workplace and can result in being fired. In the Health Academy it will result in loss of points the first 2 times and in dismissal from the academy at the semester for the third. Workplace gossip is also considered unprofessional as it distracts people from fulfilling their job duties. Gossip within the Health Academy Family disrupts the learning environment and hurts the family atmosphere we work hard to create therefore it will result in after school detention to talk out the issue. Cyberbullying is a crime and will be dealt with by removal from the Academy. Comments about other students have no place in the Social Media accounts of Health Academy students. You are all caring individuals who want to help others so you need to show that in all aspects of your life. This is especially important in this time of distance learning
Graduation Honors Requirements:
Health Academy Stole- The student must have been in the Academy for at least the full junior and senior years.
