Throughout my practice teaching journey, I have come to realize that beyond teaching skills and knowledge, a teacher’s personal attributes play a vital role in creating a positive and effective learning environment. One of the key qualities I’ve developed is a pleasing personality, which I’ve learned is not just about appearance, but also about how we carry ourselves, how we communicate, and how we connect with others, especially our students.
One aspect of maintaining a pleasing personality is wearing appropriate attire, such as our prescribed school uniform. Dressing properly is a sign of respect not only for the profession but also for the students we serve. It sets a good example, promotes professionalism, and helps build credibility in the eyes of our learners. I have learned that even small things like being neat, clean, and presentable can influence how students perceive and respond to us in the classroom.
In addition to appearance, I’ve learned the importance of clarity and control in how I speak. As a teacher, I make sure to use a well-modulated voice that is audible, calm, and respectful. I avoid shouting or using a harsh tone because I believe that how we speak affects the mood and behavior of the class. A clear and composed voice helps in maintaining order while also creating a comfortable space for students to express themselves without fear or pressure.
Another important personal attribute I’ve developed is effective communication. I strive to speak with confidence and ensure proper pronunciation and grammar in my speech. During my teaching internship, I made a conscious effort to articulate my thoughts clearly and respectfully while building rapport with students. I’ve realized that students become more engaged and responsive when they feel understood and respected by their teacher. Building this connection has helped me not only in teaching lessons but also in creating trust and mutual respect within the classroom.
I’ve improved in my use of language during instruction. I aim to be fluent and articulate, especially when explaining complex topics. I make sure to adjust my vocabulary and sentence structure based on the level of understanding of my learners. Clear and effective language use is essential in ensuring that all students grasp the lesson and feel included in the learning process. It also reflects our readiness and preparation as teachers.
All of these personal attributes professional appearance, clarity of voice, confident communication, and effective use of language have contributed greatly to my growth during my teaching internship. I didn’t develop these traits overnight. It took time, practice, and guidance from my mentors to become more aware of how I present myself and how I communicate with my students.
Looking back, I can say that my internship experience has truly molded me into the person and educator I am becoming. It has taught me that being a teacher is not just about delivering lessons but also about being a role model, a leader, and a communicator. I’ve learned to be more mindful of my actions, more confident in my speech, and more intentional in how I interact with others. These qualities may seem simple, but they have a powerful impact on how students learn and how a classroom functions.
In the future, I hope to continue developing these personal attributes, because I believe that a teacher's personality can inspire, motivate, and influence students in meaningful ways. The journey is far from over, but I am grateful for the growth I have experienced so far and I look forward to becoming the best version of myself as an educator.
