During my practice teaching, I have come to understand more deeply what it truly means to be an effective and responsive educator. At this stage, I have reached the "Applying" level in my teaching journey, where I am now capable of providing differentiated and developmentally appropriate learning experiences to address the diverse needs of most learners in the classroom. I have learned that students come from different backgrounds, have varied abilities, and possess unique ways of learning. As teachers, it is our responsibility to recognize these differences and use them to our advantage by designing instruction that supports each student's growth.
By applying my knowledge of students' developmental levels, I am able to adjust my teaching strategies, materials, and activities so that they align with my learners’ needs. This includes creating a variety of tasks and activities that cater to different learning styles whether visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or a mix of all three. Through this, I’ve noticed that more students are able to engage with the lessons and gradually work toward the intended learning outcomes. This approach not only enhances academic performance but also boosts their confidence and willingness to participate in class.
This experience has been incredibly meaningful for me. I have gained a wealth of knowledge not just from books and lectures, but from the actual experience of being in the classroom, facing real situations, and interacting with real students. I’ve learned how to be more flexible and adaptable, especially when things don’t go according to plan. I’ve also discovered the importance of reflection—evaluating what worked well in a lesson and identifying what can be improved for future classes.
One of the biggest blessings in my practice teaching journey is having a kind, supportive, and knowledgeable cooperating teacher. His guidance and feedback have played a crucial role in my development as a future educator. He never hesitated to give constructive advice, share his teaching strategies, or encourage me when I doubted myself. His mentorship has helped me grow in confidence and has allowed me to see teaching not just as a job, but as a calling. I truly admire how he manages the classroom, connects with students, and maintains professionalism and passion in teaching.
Because of this supportive environment, I felt more motivated to do my best and continue learning each day. I became more open to experimenting with different teaching methods such as collaborative group work, interactive discussions, games, and the use of multimedia tools to enrich the learning experience. These strategies helped me manage the class more effectively and encouraged students to stay engaged throughout the lesson.
My practice teaching experience has helped me realize that being an effective teacher means constantly growing, adapting, and being sensitive to the needs of every learner. It requires patience, creativity, and dedication. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn through experience and for the guidance of my cooperating teacher who shaped me into a more competent and confident future educator. Though I still have much to learn, I now feel more prepared and inspired to embrace the noble profession of teaching.
