What do I Teach?
I was assigned to teach Grade 7 students during the 4th quarter of my internship at Iligan City National High School. For Grades 7, their curriculum involves four exploratory subjects throughout the school year. By the time the 4th quarter started, the students had already been introduced to Industrial Arts. During my internship, I covered topics such as the History of Industrial Arts, Areas of Industrial Arts, and Construction Sectors. I also tackled essential subjects, including the Philippine Building Code, and provided hands-on activities focused on using Hand Tools, Power Tools, Construction Painting Tools, Plumbing Tools, Carpentry Tools, and Automotive Tools. These lessons allowed students to explore practical skills in various areas while understanding the rules and safety measures required in construction and industrial work. My goal was to make these lessons both informative and engaging, aligning them with curriculum objectives to enhance the students' learning experience.
My Cooperating teacher
I am deeply grateful to have been assigned to a cooperating teacher like Sir Jeffrey N. Jariol—a kind, humble, and dedicated mentor who consistently supports and guides his student teachers. Throughout my internship, I have learned so much from him, especially in the areas of classroom management, understanding student behavior, and employing effective strategies to capture and maintain students' attention.
Sir Jariol's approach to discipline is both thoughtful and effective. He taught me that sometimes, simply pausing and waiting can encourage students to refocus without the need for direct reprimands. He also advised me to collect students' phones at the beginning of class to minimize distractions and ensure their attention remains on the lesson. These practical techniques have significantly improved my classroom management skills.
Despite facing various challenges during my two-month teaching journey, I have managed to overcome them with resilience, thanks in large part to Sir Jariol's unwavering support. He has been a constant source of guidance, sharing valuable advice on lesson planning, student engagement, and activity design. His insights have been instrumental in enhancing my teaching practices.
During my final demonstration, Sir Jariol went above and beyond to assist me. He helped me prepare visual aids and instructional materials, organized the classroom setup, and ensured that the students were ready for the presentation. His dedication played a crucial role in the success of my demonstration.
I am beyond thankful and honored to have had the opportunity to learn from such an exceptional cooperating teacher. Sir Jariol's mentorship has left a lasting impact on my professional growth, and I will carry his lessons and wisdoms with me throughout my teaching career.
