Final Demonstration Highlights
Being the first demonstrator in our block was both an honor and a challenge. The pressure to set a standard for my peers was immense, and I knew that thorough preparation was essential. Despite facing exhaustion and financial constraints, I chose to focus on my goal and entrusted everything to God, believing that with faith and determination, I could overcome any obstacle.
With only a week to prepare, I began crafting my lesson plan, which focused on "Construction Painting Tools." After submitting it to my cooperating teacher, Sir Jeffrey N. Jariol, he provided constructive feedback that guided me in refining my approach. Recognizing the importance of visual aids for this topic, I started creating and printing my instructional materials (IMs). Sir Jariol was instrumental during this phase, assisting me in sourcing realistic tools like paintbrushes to enhance the learning experience.
However, upon reviewing my initial IMs, Sir Jariol suggested improvements to ensure clarity and effectiveness. Even though it was a holiday, he dedicated his time to help me revise and finalize the materials. His commitment and support were truly a blessing, and I felt fortunate to have such a dedicated mentor.
Preparing for the final demonstration was mentally and physically draining. Attention to detail was paramount, especially with the IMs, as any mistake could compromise the lesson's effectiveness. Given that the objective was for students to identify various tools, it was crucial that the images were clear and visible, even from the back of the classroom.
After finalizing the materials, Sir Jariol reviewed them once more to ensure everything was in order. With his approval, I proceeded to purchase snacks and drinks for the panelists and my students, aiming to create a welcoming and engaging environment.
Despite my preparations, I couldn't shake off the nervousness. I spent time studying my lesson thoroughly to build confidence. I recalled a light-hearted moment when Sir Jariol joked, "Kulbaan ka? Ah, tawo jud diay ka kay makulbaan man ka," accompanied by a warm laugh. He reassured me that feeling nervous was normal and emphasized the importance of maintaining presence of mind during the lesson.
His constant check-ins, from asking about my PowerPoint presentation to ensuring my lesson plan's hard copy was ready, showcased his dedication. He even took the initiative to print materials for me, alleviating some of my stress. His advice to "just breathe normally and calm your mind" resonated deeply, helping me manage my anxiety.
The day of the final demonstration arrived. With all preparations in place and the support of my mentor, I delivered my lesson with confidence. While there were comments highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement, I was grateful to have completed the demonstration within the allotted time. The experience validated all the hard work and sleepless nights I had invested.
This journey was more than just a test of patience; it was a profound period of self-growth. I learned to navigate challenges, adapt to unforeseen circumstances, and continuously improve myself. Having individuals like Sir Jariol, who believed in my capabilities, bolstered my confidence and determination. Their unwavering support made all the difference.
The final demonstration was a pivotal moment in my teaching journey. It taught me resilience, the value of mentorship, and the importance of preparation. I am deeply thankful to Sir Jeffrey N. Jariol for his guidance and to everyone who supported me throughout this endeavor. This experience has solidified my passion for teaching and my commitment to continuous growth in this noble profession.
