Over the past few weeks, I have realized how much I’ve grown and learned in my journey as a student teacher. Each day in the classroom has contributed to shaping me into a more confident and knowledgeable future educator. The experience has not only improved my teaching skills but also deepened my passion and eagerness to share what I’ve learned with my students. Admittedly, there are still moments when I question myself, wondering "what if I’m not doing enough?" or "what if my students don’t understand me?" But despite these doubts, I choose to continue and grow, learning more about myself, the environment of teaching helps me to grow, my students, and the art of teaching.
Being a student teacher is not just about delivering lessons, it’s about understanding the behavior and learning styles of each student. This helps me adapt and develop strategies that cater to their needs. I’ve come to understand that development does not happen overnight. You don’t simply snap your fingers and become an excellent teacher. Growth is a continuous process—it comes from everyday experiences, challenges, and the lessons we gain from them. Even as we age, we continue to learn and discover new things that enhance our journey as educators.
While I may not be the smartest teacher in the room, I am proud of the knowledge and skills I have gained over the past three years. More importantly, I’ve learned how to turn that knowledge into meaningful teaching strategies. Nowadays, students are less likely to engage if a lesson lacks creativity or relevance. This is why it's crucial for us, as future educators, to use different teaching methods and create interactive and meaningful activities that connect with the lesson objectives.
Sometimes I find myself reflecting and thinking, “Teachers truly deserve to be called heroes.” We plant the seeds of knowledge, values, and discipline that help students become capable individuals. We do more than teach; we guide, inspire, and help our students discover their potential. As I continue my student teaching experience, I strive to apply what I’ve learned from the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), especially the six domains. These help guide me in applying various strategies that enhance both critical and creative thinking. It is my responsibility as an educator to help my students think outside the box, to be curious, and to grow into independent thinkers.
In the end, this journey as a student teacher has shown me that learning and teaching go hand in hand. And I am excited for what lies ahead—ready to grow, to inspire, and to continue learning for the benefit of my future students.
