Diane Ditton

I was born and raised in Homer, Alaska, and I love living, working and serving on the Kenai Peninsula. I attended college at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where I studied History and was very involved in the thriving dance community there. During and after college I took many opportunities to travel, study, pursue my interest in dance and connect with others from different cultures.

After graduating from UMASS I returned to the Kenai Peninsula where I completed my degree in Elementary Education. My son was born in 2004 and will be graduating from high school this year. I am the mother of a sports enthusiast and can be found cheering for the teams at the hockey rink or the soccer turf!

My love for people and families inspired my work for a number of years as a parent educator and classroom teacher at Homer Head Start. In 2019 I started working for the school district teaching Language Arts in 5th and 6th grades at Fireweed Academy. In 2020 I shifted to teaching remote learning for students in grades 3-6 at West Homer Elementary.

I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist at the University of Alaska, Southeast and I still love to dance!

Philosophy: As a teacher I am guided by desire to see students connect and engage across the content areas in meaningful learning experiences with one another, their teachers, family, and community members. Within our remote learning community there are so many possibilities that await us. Each student holds a wonderful story waiting to unfold this upcoming school year and it is an honor to be a part of this journey.
