Is iChoice Virtual Learning right for our family?

πŸ“’ iChoice is open to everyone! If you are trying to decide what is best for your student and family, try considering the statements below to help you make your decision.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

πŸ‘‰ We are willing to serve as a learning guide for our students. iChoice at the elementary level has more direct parental involvement than traditional learning due to the reality that the teacher is not in the classroom with the students. A learning guide role includes navigating technology with your child, managing the weekly schedule, assisting in reading through material and assignments and helping your student self-advocate when they need help from the teacher. iChoice at the secondary level the learning guide serves as a support role to their student.

πŸ‘‰ We have internet access. The computer will be the virtual classroom, so a consistent internet connection at home is necessary. You will be assigned a device from your neighborhood school for use with your iChoice classes. If you need assistance with internet connection, please notify your school so they can coordinate with district supports.

πŸ‘‰ We are willing to advocate for ourselves by asking questions and asking for help. Unlike traditional courses, an online teacher cannot see when a student needs help or is confused. Learning with iChoice is a partnership! Families and students must be willing to initiate contact with their teacher.

πŸ‘‰ We are willing to communicate with people on the phone, through email, or with other online tools. iChoice will incorporate both synchronous (set time) and asynchronous (not a set time) learning. Willingness to connect with the teacher and learning community is an important part of online learning.

πŸ‘‰ We have a pretty consistent schedule. A consistent schedule will contribute to completion of lessons and tasks and in turn promote continual growth. Unlike a traditional brick and mortar learning, students and their family schedules are largely self-directed and discipline is required to maintain them. This also offers great flexibility, pacing personalized to the student and partnerships for learning. Attendance is taken daily and is defined by attending live classes and/or activity in Canvas.

πŸ‘‰ We are willing to stick with this. There are no set enrollment periods for the iChoice program, however, continuity is vital for strong learning progress . Families and students will need a little time to adapt to this new method of learning. It will be better for your student(s)’ learning experience to dedicate at least a month to the program.

If you agree with all of the above statements there is a high likelihood that iChoice is a strong fit. If you disagree with one or more of the above statements, remote learning may be a little challenging, and we encourage you to seek support. The remote teacher can help!
