To start, I decided to draw from the 20 works project and try a similar style and method process. It was difficult to start the first layer of expressive paint strokes for the red and purple ones most likely because of the larger paper. It was frustrating adjusting my brush strokes to fit the size of the paper. However, this frustration led me to use liquid paint on the first piece shown on the carousel. I enjoyed this easy-going splatter process, but because the marks are more separated from one another, I found it more difficult to draw in afterward. I tried to make the last piece on the carousel focus more on bleeding, translucent and minimal gouache, but like the first one, had trouble drawing with minimal brush strokes. It was hard to start drawing on the purple and red pieces, but I tried to use coloured markers that would complement the respective works. The purple one was hard at first and I honestly wanted to stop working on it altogether, but once I pushed through that feeling, I decided to use a yellow marker to compliment the purple and to use purple pastel to bring out the texture the brush strokes left behind. I enjoyed my process, however, I think I will find spending a little bit longer in the studio to push past the "I hate this piece, I want to quit," phase would be beneficial. I am mostly happy where the pieces ended up, but I think I am more happy and excited about the potential pieces that this process will bring. Moreover, I think this was a very good and necessary process to discovering what my overall focus will be in this class.
