To start off the 20 works, I cut 10 long pieces of water colour paper into two to create 20 small square water colour paper. I worked on roughly five pieces at a time starting off with a basic sequence of colours for each piece. For instance, I started the orange and blue piece by selecting the colours I wanted and started to expressively and instinctually paint the colours together until I felt satisfied with their relationship and what shapes and designs were created. After I was happy with how the selected colours interacted, I took a black water colour pen and sharpie and drew what I saw. The majority of what. I drew turned out to be a form of a landscape; whether it was an illustration of a mythical landscape or a dramatic realistic one.
Some of the pieces were harder to draw on because it was hard to find inspiration from the colour's relationship. Moreover, on the pieces that were more difficult to draw on, the colours did not interact as successfully with one another. Another obstacle I ran into was trying not to repeat the same colour sequence as a previous piece. If you look at all the pieces, it is apparent that there is a little overlap in the general colouring. For instance, there are a few with both a shade of pink/red and green/beige. However, I believe I was able to distinguish them enough through the drawing portion of the project. Overall, I am happy with how the piece came out and am excited to explore abstraction further. Moreover, I am interested in following a more abstract path with colour blocking and bringing out what I see through lines.
