Drawing inspiration from my instinct and imagination, I create abstract environments that convey thoughtful relationships between colour and brushstrokes to produce the illusion of depth with acrylic and gouache. The process that enables me to continually add to, develop, and modify my pieces is constantly layering and evolving the colours. These layers of colour and marks can go on forever, building upon themselves and creating an even more intricate and vibrant environment. My expressive brushstrokes illuminate the colours and lines that swim in and out of each other, forming different micro and macro spaces. This fluid process evolves as I layer one piece on top of the other, creating a new colour relationship that enhances the size and depth of the environment. Abstraction allows me to create an expressive base layer, and then enhance or omit certain elements by building upon what I already have, using the same or similar colours. My goal is to create paintings that are visually appealing and invoke the senses, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the scene, be inspired, and invested in the interplay of colour and mark-making that conveys depth.
